Another thing that is wrong with the Democratic Party |
|
My son works in PR in Chicago, having just moved there for that job in February. He recently called and emailed several different Democratic organizations offering to do volunteer work for them. He left voicemails and even called back. But several days later, no one has returned his calls or responded to his emails.
In frustration—and as an experiment—he called a Republican organization. Within the hour, he had gotten an email and a nice phone call, offering to take him out for coffee to discuss what he might be able to do as a volunteer for the organization.
The woman who called him was very eager. “You’re in PR?” she said. “That’s wonderful. We’ve got the midterm elections coming up next year, and we could certainly use your talents!”
That’s it, guys. We’ve got the midterm elections coming up next year, but for some reason Democratic groups on the ground can’t even respond to someone who wants to volunteer his time and his professional skills to help out. The Republicans kick our ass because they take care of business at that level. They don’t just ignore those who want to help—they use them!

This seemed to be a major problem in the last "election".

3. Same thing happened to me. |
|
Our area is short on block captains, and at the last election, I called to the local office to volunteer to become one. I left several messages and no one ever called me back. It was frustrating. I finally got hold of an individual legislator and set up some leafletting that way.

4. Let me tell you about what happens sometimes on the ground |
|
I volunteer with the Democrats...but you see..like me...they have other lives they are leading between elections. We have full time jobs, kids and other stuff....and we don't have the money to have a full time secretary in our offices to answer phones and keep everything organized.
My greatest desire was to see our local county committee raise enough cash to get a fund together that we could draw from (hopefully only the interest) in order to pay one person a salary and benefits so that they could sit at headquarters and take names, organize people into groups...etc...but that has not happened because we just don't have enough cash.
I know myself that there were just about 5 of us in our county that used our own money to buy bumperstickers, buttons etc...and we asked for donations to get our money back and gave the excess to headquarters to pay for parking meters, pizza...etc...not many people were willing to do that but then we got grief from people about donating $1 for a bumpersticker or button...yet they didn't know that one of our people had actually charged $1500 on her credit card to buy all that stuff...cuz the Kerry campaign had not given us anything...
