State Dept. Warned of Poor Iraq Planning (before the invasion)

WASHINGTON — The State Department warned U.S. Central Command before the invasion of Iraq of “serious planning gaps” for postwar security, according to newly declassified documents.

In a memorandum dated Feb. 7, 2003 _ one month before the beginning of the Iraq war _ State Department officials also wrote that “a failure to address short-term public security and humanitarian assistance concerns could result in serious human rights abuses which would undermine an otherwise successful military campaign, and our reputation internationally.”

<…>

The February 2003 memo was written by three State Department bureau chiefs for Undersecretary Paula Dobriansky. The authors wrote, “We have raised these issues with top CENTCOM officials and General Garner.” Retired Army Gen. Jay Garner was the first U.S. administrator in Baghdad after the fall of Saddam Hussein.

The bureau chiefs warned that there could be “serious planning gaps for post-conflict public security and humanitarian assistance between the end of the war and the beginning of reconstruction.”

So, all of the propaganda from this administration is really being shown to be full of shit. With the evidence we’ve seen (9/11 Commission report, SIC report, ISG report, DSM, etc.), how can anyone dispute that this administration failed in almost every aspect for handling a post-invasion Iraq? Only a true, die-hard apologist would still support the Propagandist and his cabal of liars.

People like that are the types that are harming this great nation.

1. I think they did have a plan but not one that would work
If you recall Brennen(sp?) redid the laws and every thing was to be sold off and a laissez faire business style was put in by law and stated the people of Iraq could not change it.And they sent GOP people over to put this all in the works. Look this up and you will see it was a plan.

2. Bremer? Complete and utter puppet who replaced Garner
Garner had the nerver to work for moving to Iraqi elections before the * admin wanted to.
