Does anyone know why the Sheehan vigils were "limited"?
According to the sign-up website, the vigil near my house said 30 was the 'limit' and the event was "full". The next closest said 50 was the limit and that event was full. Anybody, do you know how this works? I assumed they got permits and the number of protestors was fixed by the permit, but as I read here some of the vigils reached into the hundreds?

1. I had the same thing happen here.
I think because those particular vigils were being held in private residences or private yards.

I did go anyway, and stand in the street. They were more than okay about it.

2. The vigil required permission from the local police and I believe
that considering the size of the site where we assembled, limited the amount of people allowed.

3. Those that were "limited" were probably held in private facilities...
...homes or somesuch, that could only accommodate certain numbers.

4. Some vigils were held in private homes or small venues.
Some vigils were held in large public places.

7. The 'find a vigil near you' feature didn't help me at all, 150 mile limit
and I am well over 150 miles from anywhere remotely likely to have a gathering for anything not involving a school sporting event.

Glad ta see ya, bluebear ;)

in my life ;) There aren't people around. ::chuckle::

9. Thanks mom, all refreshed here!
(A couple days of self-enforced relief from outrage is a good thing every now and then, I have learned!)

15. where are you?
I'm fairly rural but there were some within an hour...I didn't make it - didn't find out about them until yesterday afternoon (off the computer for a day and a half and lost touch with EVERYTHING!) I wonder if there iwll be more?

I have access to a whole bunch of interstate "frontage" been thinking of putting up some kind of something (real signs are not legal but there are so many other possibilities  )

17. National Geographic called this the most remote community in the Lower 48
And they were not kidding. An hour just gets you to more scenery! Two hours doesn't do much more. Not kidding, 150 mile radius not enough to help me at all.

12. There was one here that was limited to 80 people --
it was on a bridge, and any more people would have blocked traffic.

I, unfortunately, had to work and couldn't go.

13. The one I went to said they wanted 100. A later email said they
already had 130+ and to come over anyway. There was LOTS of room, outside, at a large intersection and probably close to 200 people.
My guess was that when they filed for the permit they took a stab at a reasonable turnout, but that it wasn't necessarily etched in stone.

14. ok this is why. I hosted one and it was up to me to put a limit
in the limit space. I put 500 because I knew I had no way of know how many would sign up. Most people probably just asumed that about thay many would bother to sign up. We actually had 170 sign up and I was quite amazed. That was Va. Beach VA.
