If you are going to Crawford on Friday: READ THIS! (Important)
I am in Crawford at the Peace house. This is a very important message, please spread the word far and wide:

There is a high-school football game here in Crawford on Friday night. This means that there will be next-to-no parking available in front of the Peace House.

Crawford is a tiny town only 15 - 20 blocks long. Traffic here is going to be a bear on that evening and the organizers are nervous that the congestion will agitate the locals.

Try to arrive as early as you can on Friday. If you don't think you can make it here before 5pm, please consider coming on Saturday morning. You probably won't be able to get near the town after 5pm anyways.

It only takes one person to slow down suddenly in front of the Peace House to create a fender-bender that will block traffic for hours.

The locals have been understanding; but visitors from neighboring communities may not be so accommodating, and many will be drinking alcohol.

When you get to Crawford, if you want to check into the Peace House, DO NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN YOU GET TO THE PEACE HOUSE. Follow the instructions of the volunteers promptly. They may bark orders at you, they are not being rude: They are trying to avoid an accident in this town.

I know this might be asking for a lot considering the traffic on DU, but please keep this thread kicked until Friday night.

If you have a blog, please post the above information. Tell everyone you know: Friday night, the traffic into Crawford may be next to impassable. Be patient.

6. God yes! Please carpool if your comming Friday night.
You have no idea how tight the normal parking situation is with the football feild next door. Without it, they might only have the land next to the railroad tracks across the street.

But I thought it would be useful to point out that shuttling and the like easily evades the parking issue.

ON EDIT: What about hiring transportation? A lot of people may be willing to donate money, and it is a very easily-transferrable form of support, so perhaps hiring shuttles and taxis and so on would make sense, and provide a good way to use donation money?

5. Very apt post
Trust me, as one who spent a lot of years in this area, DUers do not want to be in evening football traffic.
Especially those w/ bumperstickers etc.
There are great people in Crawford but Friday night (football) is a whole 'nuther story.

24. I've been asking around.
There is no train that stops in Crawford. It goes by, but you'd have to jump off at 35 mph.

25. No no, not a train. I was wondering if Peace House had any carpools that
they had scheduled maybe.

I am not sure if they have certain cars/vans arriving that they were expecting. I thought maybe if they were expecting us it might be alright to try and just go straight to camp...

Its ok Imsure everything wil work itself out i either get there later on Friday or early Saturday.

Thanks!

42. Mine too, and my hat is a NASCAR racing one!
From another Okie in pain but one who's feeling better every day now. I see a lot of light in the distant foreground and I'm quite sure this time it isn't an oncoming train.

I really do WANT to make my way down to Camp Casey and I have the time and freedom, but I don't think I can handle the trip and the rigors of hanging out there physically, and I don't have the funds for a trip. Unless some of this carpooling talk materializes into a reality -- THEN I might be able to at least consider it seriously!

Meanwhile I'm trying to think of way I might be able to contribute from here. Since I can't send money, maybe I can offer my services in some other way. Surely the growing gathering of Cindy-backers have needs they could let us all know about if we want to help but can't make the trip or send money?
