Operation SLOWPUMP!!!
What do you all think? I LIKE IT!!!

""Welcome to SlowPump.com, a website to learn how to stand up to the Oil Industry!
Are you tired of the price of gas? Do you want to get something done about the price for gas. Well you are at the right site.
I have received emails that say to not by gas on a day to let the Oil industry know that we are mad. But, they know we have to have the gas and if you don't buy it today you will be in tomorrow. We can't go to a gas station and have a -sit in-, they would have us removed for loitering. So we came up with SLOW PUMP. You need take as long as you possibly can to pump your gas into your vehicle.""

1. Unlikely to have any effect other than pissing off other motorists.
The price of oil reflects Peak Oil, and political instability caused by Bush.

2. I would probably beat down a motherfucker doing that in front of me
I get super-pissed at the gas station when people aren't going in and out efficiently. Net effect of this: lots of fights at service stations.

3. I think the idea is that
if we ALL did it on the same day it would get press, get attention, get people thinking.

7. Yeah, I get that
But "we" all ain't gonna do it, and if some jerk-off is checking his fuses and causing a delay at the pump, the steam would be coming out of my ears and my hands would be forming into fists. I don't drive out o th gas station to spend a lot of time. In and out, thanks. This is a brain dead idea, and will do more to piss people off than the damn fuel prices.

5. lol... yeah, I would get annoyed by that, too...
to sit there and watch some ass clown waste my time, when it already hurts to by gas is just adding insult to injury, IMHO.

11. I believe one could pump slow enough to have an effect without
going so far as to cause a riot at the pumps.

4. Why not just kick off "Operation Ride-A-Bike"...
that way YOU do not personally help the oil bastards, and YOU get healthy, all at the same time!

6. You know what?
If you pump slow and cause me to spend an extra 30 minutes getting fuel, my family pays for that and no one else. No way in Hell are the oil companies going to lower prices because I'm late getting my son to little league practice.

9. It would be a lot more effective to reduce consumption

1. Carpool when possible, both for commuting and for errands. Shop with a friend.

2. Consolidate trips to do more things in fewer trips, especially when stops are close together and distances larger.

3. If you have a choice of vehicles, drive the more fuel efficient one when possible.

'Slowpump' could be considered as just another tool
in our toolbox.

13. Well I see you are getting the typical DU responses here
This happens on any thread proposing a mass action. All the naysayers and "yeah, but it would really inconvenience MEEEEE".

Wusses.

15. Pardon Me?!?!
What if i think that this "mass action" will be a dismal failure, apropos of nothing, and therefore refuse to consider participation?

That makes me a wuss? Ridiculous.

21. Devise a mass action that makes a lick of sense
And I'm all for it, convenience be damned. Devise a bone stupid mass action that makes no sense at all, and I'm happy to call the stupid stupid.

17. Sorry but this is a stupid idea
The ones that will be hurt by this, the retail outlets, can't do a damn thing about the price. In fact their profit margin on gas is abysmally small, like 1 cent per gallon. In addition, such an action as this ultimately benefits the oil companies, for people will be burning even more gas simply sitting and waiting for pumps to free up. And the large oil companies, well they'll just sit back and laugh, for they know full well that they've got the driving public over the proverbial (oil) barrel.

Rather than silly and ultimately counterproductive protests like this, we would be better served by simply reducing our consumption levels and going through withdrawl from our national oil addiction. Start using mass transit or a bike for your commute. Car pool with others. Make your home as energy efficient as possible. Invest in energy alternatives, such as wood stoves, solar panels, and if you have the space(aprox. 1/4 acre) wind turbines. Buy either hybrids or if you have a place to make biodiesel, diesel vehicles.

Yes, these measures are going to be painful and costly in the short run. But we as a nation have to start thinking long term. Corporate America and our government certainly won't, so it is up to us, the citizen and consumer to do so. If we implement these and other energy solutions, we can kick our oil habit, and kick Big Oil to the curb in the process.

20. yea, having a bunch of idling vehicles
burning gas, running the a/c while waiting to fill up will REALLY make the OIL companies mad.

(geez)

I have a better idea. Lets all just buy a gallon of gas in a small can, and then pour it down the drain.

That'll teach'm!

/sarcasm

22. Buy only Citgo if you truly want to strike a blow
Citgo is Venezuela's oil/gas company and they are truly trying to make a difference.
