Tiger Attack
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 10:53 AM by ls317
MOUND VALLEY, Kansas (AP) -- A Siberian tiger attacked and killed a teenage girl who was posing for photos at a family-run animal sanctuary Thursday in southeast Kansas, authorities said.

The Labette County Sheriff's office identified the victim as Haley R. Hilderbrand, 17, of Altamont. A statement from the office said Hilderbrand was at the Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary posing for photos with the 7-year-old tiger, which was being restrained by its handler, when the animal turned and attacked her.

2. Evidently the rage there is to have your Senior pic taken w/ the Tigers.
Stupid idea?

Ask Sigfried & Roy.

IMHO the parents are, of course, responsible, but wth would the school encourage this by accepting these pics for their yearbook?

3. Stories like this are the reason I won't go near most animals
There's no such thing as a "tame" wild animal. Heck, even a deer can panic and do some damage, particularly to a child.

I'm happy to admire them through a fence, thanks, or better yet at a distance in a natural or close-to-natural setting.

5. Horrible all around...
On a side note: I can't help thinking that they shouldn't have killed the tiger. They could've tranquilized it. Its species is very rare, so its life is pretty valuable (*gets ready for flames*).
