We have a nomination for a new Mr. Moran!
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 12:29 PM by Zan_of_Texas
First, spend a few minutes on any one of these three magnificent collections of photos from Camp Casey and from the vigils for Cindy.

http://cryptome.sabotage.org/brp/bush-ranch2.htm

For instance:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then, I must submit the below pic in nomination for a new Mr. Moran.
I know DUers will all recall the fellow with the belly sticking out and the mullet with the sign calling the peace folk "Morans" from maybe a year or so ago. Now, in that fine tradition, we have a nominee:
Gary Muchler, right, of Wilkes-Barre attempts to disrupt a rally supporting Cindy Sheehan and criticizing President Bush as he grabs for a sign held by Robert Griffin, Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The rally was part of a national observance for Sheehan's vigil in Texas. (AP Photo/The Citizens' Voice, Dave Scherbenco)
20. I'll submit to you all
that 10 years ago, that was someone that voted for democrats.
We're losing the working man and women in this country because they've been tricked by the GOP.
They've all been hijacked by the GOP into thinking that all muslims are evil and should be killed.
They've been hijacked by the GOP into thinking that gays will corrupt our children, etc.
Look at the polling done on the education gap after the November election, look where Kerry did better than Bush, it was in areas where people had college degrees and more than a high school education.
Bush did better with people with less than a college degree.
Why? Because the GOP has found a strategy where they can get people to vote against their own economic interests and life interests, by exploiting their prejudices against certain groups of people, religions, ethnicities, etc. For example, the war on terror, which may be better described as the war to kill muslims and islam, or arabs, or the fight against gay marriage.
If we are ever going to win again, we need to get middle to low class America back on our side, one way is to make unions stronger.
What is going in our favor right now, is the economy tanking, the GOP may just kill themselves in 2006 and 08.
... by getting our party solidly back on THEIR side again.
But I don't assume that this guy was once a Dem voter. Could be, maybe, we can't really say for sure. Sadly, I've met plenty of people like him -- uneducated, no prospects, but lifelong die-hard republicans. Sometimes, their need to bully people just trumps common sense.
36. personally
I think class warfare makes sense.
You're never going to completely eliminate poverty, because some corporate big wig will move to China or Mexico, or lay off workers, etc.
But, to help ease some of our ills in this country the first step should be to educate people on how to take care of themselves, i.e. find a job, stay clean, lead productive lives.
With republicans in office, we leave more and more middle to lower class americans behind every day.
Whenever, I encounter someone complaining about the war, or gas prices, or lack of jobs, I remind him that they voted for the idiot.
When they say that they did not, my reply is, "then how in the hell did he get re-elected?"
It shuts them up pretty quick.
19. Reviewing those photos of the vigils in support of Cindy Sheehan
...from around the country, I kept thinking of this song:
<snip>
BRIGHT EYES LYRICS
"When The President Talks To God"
When the president talks to God
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike
When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God
Are the consonants all hard or soft?
Is he resolute all down the line?
Is every issue black or white?
Does what God say ever change his mind
When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed
When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God
I wonder which one plays the better cop
We should find some jobs, the ghetto's broke
No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't
Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke
That's what God recommends
When the president talks to God
Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade
When the president talks to God
When the president talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?
That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bullshit
When the president talks to God?
I doubt it
I doubt it
<end of snip>
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 12:46 PM by BattyDem
"War is the answer" - what a nice sentiment. :eyes:
I feel sorry for the woman next to her, with the sign that says, "My husband did not die in vain" - I suspect that's why many families who have lost someone in Iraq refuse to turn on Bush. If they did, they would have to admit that their loved one died for nothing ... and that's got to hurt. :-(
So they say they didn't. When I die, if it is for a stupid reason, I'm going to be really pissed. I am so sorry for the people who have gotten killed and the huge number injured, physically mentally spiritually, but this invasion/occupation and this is why I am working to get the USA troops out of Iraq.
42. Some people who are grieving the loss of their loved ones
Do have to keep up the pretense that they died for a good cause. Some of them will come to terms with the fact that they didn't in time. Others never will.
I hold no judgment against those who've lost loved ones in this war and still cling to the belief it was for a good cause. I am not the one living their hell, and for that I'm very grateful.
Having said my piece above... That ripped up cardboard sign stating "war is the answer" shows how lost that little puppy is. Let us all hope she doesn't procreate.
74. Thanks for posting ...
I appreciate that you bothered to find something about the guy instead of simply judging him by the photo. There is irony in the original "Moran" photo that makes it humorous and clear in its context. This one isn't so clear and everyone has jumped all over it with petty comments, as though all anti-war types are svelte and beautiful. It seems that he is as well, just more extreme. I generally take such comments with a grain ... they're disappointing -but not unexpected. These, however, do make us look like the snotty elitists the right portrays us to be. If he was a vet silently holding a candle, would you make fun of his bulging belly? Frankly, if I was so given to assumption ... I'd think the guy in the suit was the instigator. He looks more like a Republican stereotype - but since it is just a photo (a media photo, at that) I reserve judgment. I don't condone his behavior or alleged vulgarity ... but with only a vague caption to go on, making fun of his looks and suggesting him to be a stupid "Republican" is ridiculous.
On the other hand I love the difference it shows between the protesters and the one on ** side...So who in that photo looks the mainstream and which one looks like a kook? Oh yeah, those wide-eyed, pot smoking, hippie protesters....
47. Nope, keep the old Moran, he was too doofusy on so many levels
The old Moran strikes most everyone as a doofus. I am having a difficult time saying what is wrong with using this one. I guess he hits the wrong stereotypes for me, that I'd rather use one that looked ridiculous and makes everyone laugh, than this one that looks angry and promotes hatefulness. Besides, the Moran is young enough and fit enough to enlist. This guy is just pitiful.
I really don't like this picture because of the message it sends. Man in suit-liberal; man in "poor clothes"=regular guy=Republican.
Let's not spread this about too much. I don't agree with what happend but this sure isn't going to help.
84. Substance abuse
Mr. Moran II obviously has a serious drinking problem--look at that red schnoz, those burst blood vessels. He also seems to be lurching or staggering toward his target--alcohol induced lack of balance. :beer:
