What's wrong with stupid people?
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 04:58 PM by madeline_con
Here's what happened. I was subbing at the middle school in a special needs class. I've been there all week.

Anyway, today was field trip day. We went to the local WalMart, 10 kids, 4 adults to do lunch at McDonald's and a little shopping. The students had lists for a couple of items for home, to practice basics skills, etc.

So, I'm cruising through the store with this boy who's in a wheelchair and he drools, so he wears a thick bib. This old lady passes us, and I smile, you know no big deal. After she passes, she stops her cart, turns around and does the "HUMPH!" thing.

(We wern't in the way, no one had to dodge anyone, IOW, she had no reason to cop an attitude.)

I didn't see it, but the boss did, and she told me what happened. I would have been verbally abusive had I seen her act like that! I would have asked her what her problem was!!

Just who the HELL does she think she is? What makes her so all fired special that disabled people can't go to WalMart when her old wrinkled ass decides to venture out for some orthopaedic inserts and metamucil??!! I hate people like her, and they really need to stay at home a lot more!!!!!

Thank you for allowing me to vent!

4. Good point.
I hope she has a miserable weekend. I don't suppose it occurs to sheeple like her that those who are confined to wheelchairs have feelings, and they can see this hateful, hurtful behavior!

3. I ripped into someone years ago for a similar thing
I drove a van for special needs adults and one day we were parked in a supermarket lot waiting for one of my co-workers to come out of the store. There was a station wagon next to us with kids about the age of 14 or 15 who were making faces at my passengers, pretending to be drooloing, etc.

I was going to say something to them but decided against it because I didn't want to get anyone hurt...I used to be crazier than I am now. Anyhow, their mother came out of the store and headed toward their car, so I got out of the van and told her what her charming kids were up to, that they were rude, insensitive, mean and not well brought up to pull crap like that. She was really embarrassed but gave them hell. Don't know if she meant it or not, but I felt better.

I hate that shit.

9. I had to mention some behavior
to a fellow worker at school the other day....

His students were being asses to ours when ID pics were being done.
I don't know if he said anything to them or not. But he knows we didn't appreciate it, so that's something.

5. Once, a woman literally shoved my mother at the supermarket
My mother had a stroke many years before and wore a brace on one leg. She was in her 80s. Maybe the brace wasn't that noticeable. But, you would think someone would look before they push someone aside. In a reflex action I reached out to grab her by her suit jacket but she was moving too fast. I guess I was lucky not to be able to reach her.

Thank goodness mom was holding onto the shopping cart in line or she might have gone flying. I was too busy seeing that mom was okay to chase the woman. She was so well dressed and coiffed, too. A white collar terror grabbing something for lunch at the supermarket. Grrrr....

10. Even if they're young..
you don't go shve someone out of the way.

Some peole have no manners. It's my honest opinion that if more people were whacked upside the head for such behavior, there would be a damn sight less of it!

11. Thanks!
Even though this happened years ago, it comes back to mind upon hearing stories like the one you related. People can be so self centered they have no common sense or dignity left - if they ever had any in the first place.

6. you know what really chaps my ass...
They hand out those blue license plates like salted nuts at a party. Lazy ass bastards driving jacked up Escalades taking up parking reserved for really needy people. Some businesses even have a subgroup of spaces reserved for vans with chairlifts, but they can't keep keep these jackoffs out of there either.

12. Is this a sarcastic post?
You don't seriously believe that all "handicaps" are readily apparent to the casual observer?

I have yet to be able to determine whether someone has heart disease ... just by walking past them (nor have I been able to determine if someone has any number of ailments).

Perhaps your statement is true in your state ...

Regarding the reference to Escalades ... is it not possible to be fairly affluent AND handicapped.

I truly do not mean to sound hostile, I just don't think things are always as they appear.

7. The organ Kundabuffer...
I call them the Upside-Down People.
Everything in their reality is upside-down.
They are incapable of seeing the world as it appears to the rest of us.

Good is bad.
Hate is Love.
Bush is President.

You know things like that.

While I'm willing to admit the possibility that they are right about reality and the rest of us are upside-down, it would take a hell of lot to convince me of it. Like maybe Jebus coming out of the sky and personally shaking me by the shoulders and telling me to "Wake Up!"

The sucky part of it all is that we got a war going on right now between two sets of Upside-Down people, and the rest of us are caught in the middle. You know, the Fundies of different stripes.

Sorry to hear about your incident today. Unfortunately, it was your turn!

8. Bottom line
I'll say it. Americans in general aren't as decent or humane as they used to be. There are far more inhumane egocentric people in this country now. Feel free to fire away.
