Gore seriously wants us involved, right now Current is teaching people
about lighting, cameras and techniques.

So DU why are you not already watching Current?

5. Doesn't it rule! Newcasters asking us what they should cover!
It boggles the mind how awesome this channel can be.

Channel 366 on Direct tv, watch it, participate in it, and tell them what you want them to cover, or film it yourself and be a star.

I love Current and I will continue to post about it like a mad man until it catches on.

8. Then thell them what to cover and they will
if you don't like it, unlike every other channel on tv you are the producer, you can change it if you want.

Interactive tv is the wave of the future.

I love it.

12. I can't get it
but has anyone sent footage from Camp Casey? Like telling the truth about the numbers of pro-Bush people, eg. The MSM when they interviewed the moron from the radio station, did not tell the public that they only had 50 people, all taken there by the radio show host, and that they left after 30 minutes.

Anyone watching the 'fair and balanced' coverage the MSM feels compelled to do, to include the freeper contingency no matter how small, would have thought that there were equal numbers of people, spending equal time there.

I was just wondering. It sounds like a great concept ~ sort of like local access, only bigger ~ thank God Al Gore invented the Internets!

:loveya:

It has the potential to be great! Even if you don't get it on television, you can still visit the web site and vote to get the Camp Casey video on the air.

http://www.current.tv/studio/media/256173

While you're there, take time to watch some of the other "pods" - many have progressive messages and DUers should be voting to get them on the air.

Here are a few I think you'll like. :-)

Inauguration Day

Homeland Insecurity

The Bumper Stickers Did It

Current can be very valuable to us if we use it in the right way.

Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 07:38 PM by Melodybe
Iterviews with teens in Iran is meaningless?

Interviews with patients that need medica marijuana is meaningless?

Interviews with the homeless is meaningless?

You just haven't watched it long enough.

Give it a chance it is addictive.

Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 07:50 PM by BattyDem
I felt so sorry for those people! :-(

The one about the young Palestinians using rap as a method of nonviolent resistance was also very interesting.
(I saw this one on the web site. I'm not sure if it made it to TV yet.)

By the way, do you happen to know how many "greenlights" it takes to get a pod on the air? I couldn't find that info on the web site.

24. I watched it when we launched it here at DirecTV.
I had to - there was a problem right at launch.

After an hour, I grew bored. Scattershot approach, hosts trying waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard to be hip, and a series-less format turned me off (and I had really looked forward to it, dammit).

Tell me, do they have the same format, or has it evolved at all?

25. it's getting better, much like the early days of Mtv, no one really knows
what they are doing, it takes time, but as a news channel, I must say they are already 10 times as informative as the networks news channels.

The factiods are priceless, and I just emailed on of their producers about doing a pod with my Grandpa about Global Warming.

That might actually happen as Grandpa is already friends with Al Gore.

I just love the interactive aspect, it makes me feel powerful.

Call me cynical, there are still gatekeepers, even at Current.

That said, I'll give it another shot today - I'm here for another twelve hours, so why not?

35. Well, I gave it another shot...
And WOW, was I stunned.

But not in a good way.

Instead, I watched a reprehensible piece of garbage called (I think) "Super News" - a badly-animated, unfunny, offensive piece of dreck that reinforced harmful, even racist, stereotypes against Muslims and didn't even do a good job of lampooning an easy target like that idiot Biden.

I was shocked that Current would air something like that. I'm just pissed enough to write them and tell them that not all Muslims are like those depicted in that stupid, stupid cartoon.

Even worse was the part where the Iranian said "we're pursuing nuclear technology for peaceful uses", then loses it, laughing that he "can't say it with a straight face". IMHO, that's a dangerous reinforcement of the bullshit fear that Iran is going to threaten us with nukes.

I really have to say, Current should not have aired that crap, and I'm surprised they did.

(I did enjoy the snippet on the sticker guy, and I dig the 'loading bar' graphic that plays in the lower-left quadrant of the screen during vignettes, but I still don't care for the format.)

26. At first, I couldn't make any sense
out of it, and then I went to the website, and what was going on fell into place. Now we watch it fairly often. Actually, I'm wondering how much of it is a function of the viewer's age. People my age ( I'm 55) take in and process information in quite different ways than younger people. One tends to be linear and narrative based; the other tends to be associative and "discontinuous" ( not meant as a pejorative term - nor is it to suggest that the individual segments are not narratively constructed and linear).
I can process it in fairly short stretches, and then come back to it. Personally, I think it is one of the most innovative and radical departures in how information is distributed that I've seen. The long term implications are remarkable. In a sense, it collapses the traditional distinctions between the producers, the consumers and the distributors of information.

33. my take on it too. "them" or "it" becoming "us" and closing the circle
since it is targeted to under 30 year olds, your assessment of the lack of linear narrative is spot on.
