Letter from a union brother
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 12:44 AM by ballabosh
This letter appeared in the July/August issue of the IBEW Journal. The letters are not available on the online version of the journal, so this is a transcript that I received from my father via email. This is not posted with any permission, but I think it is important to hear. I can get a scan of this letter if needed. The letter is posted in full below:

I just came home from 15 months building a new POW prison in southern Iraq for KBR (Halliburton) and never been treated this bad in my life. I worked 15 to 18 hours a day, seven days a week, some 4800 hours in one year.
We couldn't order our own electrical material so when it came in wrong, instead of sending it back, they would just dig a hole in the sand and throw it in.I have seen hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted at taxpayer's expense.
When I got to Iraq, I stood with my hands in my pockets for well over a month. I ended up calling my wife to send my tool bag.
I am glad they sent me home. I was tired of saying I am sorry for KBR's games being played with the military and the taxpayers.

Daniel A Poczynek

1. Question: KBR: Does that stand for
(something) Brown Root?

7. Stupid, stupid brain fart - I should have known that!
Perhaps we should start reminding people that this company, which is making a major profit off of this war, is also knee deep in asbestos litigation. People don't like asbestos litigation. It strikes too close to home for many.

I posted it because I thought it needed to be out.

Just know that this is not my letter. I'm quoting it.

9. Thanks for posting this.
This kind of letter is exactly what people need to see.

Mr. Poczynek is the kind of witness that the American public can relate to; his story--uncoached, genuine, and revealing--speaks volumes to people who must tighten belts every month to get by, but at the same time whose tax money is wasted by a war machine that is never accountable for its spending.
