Northwest brothers and sisters strike...
and the freepers love this shit! grrrr

original post here: http://spidel.net/blog/?p=48

Well here is the deal…

Mechanics and other ground workers struck Northwest Airlines early on Saturday after last-ditch negotiations failed to reach a deal on concessions to help the carrier cut costs and avert possible bankruptcy.

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association represents 5,400 mechanics, cleaners and custodians at the No. 4 U.S. airline, which said it would use replacement workers to maintain its planes and keep flying. - Source: Reuters.

The “deal” was:

The labor group said its final counter offer would have met the cost cutting target and preserved jobs.

The union accused the company of bargaining in bad faith over eight months, saying the airline’s best proposal would have cut more than half the AMFA jobs and imposed hefty pay cuts for remaining workers.

Northwest was seeking $176 million in wage and benefit cuts sought from the mechanics, their share of $1.1 billion in concessions the company has insisted its workers must grant. Otherwise, it will seek bankruptcy protection.

Ahhh and the freepers response to this: http://spaces.msn.com/members/jbgwells/Blog/cns!1pezwB6n1ULmOCqSqUqGiAEQ!106.entry

3. I bet MN will bail them out - AGAIN.
Sheesh. Corporations who make money get a helping hand when they need it.

But if a person has no job, who cares why, they're worthless shit.

That's our society, folks.

6. Shit, indeed
I don't cross picket lines (years of seeing my pipelining hubby picket) and (our own teachers' strike in 1988), but am supposed to be flying NWA to Washington for the anti-war protest on Sept. 24th....what to do? Cross the picket line, or join the anti-war protest? I am using frequent flyer miles, or would not be able to go. Damn.

8. I was booked to Boston for a work related event
so I had no choice. Left Madison, WI at 5:15pm (scheduled for 1:35pm) - long story short - I arrived in Boston at 11:45pm (same day service!!)...

I'm in Boston now for a week. If any Boston DU'ers want to get together for a beer, let me know.
