Bush invokes Sept 11 to defend Iraq war

CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug 20 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Saturday U.S. troops in Iraq were fighting to protect Americans at home from more attacks like those of Sept. 11, 2001, starting a five-day focus on his case for the war amid growing public discontent.

"Our troops know that they're fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere to protect their fellow Americans from a savage enemy," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

"They know that if we do not confront these evil men abroad, we will have to face them one day in our own cities and streets, and they know that the safety and security of every American is at stake in this war, and they know we will prevail," he said.

His comments came as the public shows more discontent with his handling of Iraq, with high-profile protests during Bush's ranch vacation and new poll results showing nearly six in 10 Americans are worrying about the outcome of the war.

3. WHAT ENEMY??!?!
Sorry for yelling, but the "savage enemy" line is just too much. He doesn't even know who the enemy is, and the real enemy, bin Laden, hasn't been addressed in years, even though it's obvious that he's still at least partly running the show.

Anyone who believes this crap deserves this complete moron. How can anybody possibly be that stupid and/or ignorant?

5. His frame is such that he thinks we are a bunch of wimps-
as if an enemy coming to these shores, fighting us here, somehow we couldn't or wouldn't be able to handle it

So that makes it perfectly ok to f*** up another country

Oh and play the fear card again ad nauseum

Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 11:13 AM by dogday
He has repeated this lie so many times, I do believe he honestly believes what he is saying is the truth. But here is the truth........

There was no connection between Iraq and 9-11.

Fighting them there will not keep them from coming here.

We have created a haven for terrorist in Iraq.

They have taken a revenge against one man to a war
in which all muslims are now involved.

Did not support the soldiers in this war by not giving them
their proper gear.

And finally, they have raped us of our constitutional rights, there is no longer the expected privacy one should have in this country.

10. Bush links Iraq war with Sept. 11 attacks
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9020634/

article here too. This quote kills me:
"Our troops know that they're fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere to protect their fellow Americans from a savage enemy," Bush said in his weekly radio address"

Can we get some troops at Camp Casey to say they don't know that!!!! I listened to Randi on Friday and a lady being interviewed at Camp Casey said many of the soldiers who went there said they joined the military because of 9/11 and don't know why they are in Iraq. Can we please get the troops out there to say this when Bush goes on his "I was the best during 9/11 bullshit tour"

13. I cannot believe
how many people believe this BS. How long are we going to be surrounded by all of these morons that let a stupid POS get into office? This war is an illegal war yet people still can't make the connection when it is put in their faces(Fahrenheit 9/11 was a good one.............). This is one of the things that makes me DISAPPOINTED to be an American. I can't stand all of this BS.

16. our media is a big part of this problem
I really hope some soldiers back from Iraq speak up now while Bush tries to say that they know they are fighting for freedom in Iraq in response to 9/11. It may sound shrewd, but I think the media will listen to them....... and we are going to go through the annual day in day out of video montages of Bush coming out of the dust with the American flag flying in the background!

Sorry to rant....... as a downtown Nyer, this time of year I hate Bush more than I can begin to explain.

I can't believe he is still trying to link 9/11 to Iraq!!!

Apparently he still believes people bought that excuse from the last election.

Earth to George: we're not buying into that excuse anymore!

18. I thought it was about WMD's? No Wait! It's about Democray. No Wait!
It's about terorrism. Hey anythings better than the real reason. To provide Halliburton with an opportunity to rob our treasury of Billions.
Too bad Congress won't be back before Bush to tell him. You spread that Bush Shit one more time and you will be damned lucky if we send to your ranch for a permanent vacation.

The press needs to start driving nails and calling him out on his impromptu lies. Because his current logic would be rational if we were battling a country. But we are not. We are fighting independant mercenary cells. What is going on in Iraq has no effect upon these cells. This has been proven in Madrid and London. Why hasn't it stopped those attacks by the INDEPENDANT CELLS? I this serves more to prove that Al Qaida doesn't attack us until BUSH says it's time to attack us.

23. Ah, the original springboard to Iraq shot down by Tony Blair.
No Bushy boy. It wasn't Saddam Hussein. It was your old buddy Usama Bin Laden. Bush was originally going to use 9/11 as the excuse to invade Iraq. You know because Kuwait tried to kill his daddy. But Blair did a fine job of convincing Bush that the Al Qaida cat was out of the Bag. Half the world knew it was them and Bush could not keep them quite to twist the facts.

22. The Democrats use this line too
Folks, keep in mind that the "leadership" of the Democratic party want you to believe this stuff too.

We have both Hillary and Joe Biden wanting to continue this war, even send more troops. Why? See above.

I'll never forget the day that some guy called from the DNC asking for a donation. This was during Kerry's presidential campaign. I told him I wasn't supporting a pro-war candidate. The guy proceed to use the exact same argument Bush is using to day: "if we don't fight them over there, we will have to fight them here" !!!! And this was from the DNC!
