I almost got arrested last night. Not really, but you gotta read this. |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 02:59 PM by sparosnare
As you read, keep in mind I live in Bush Country (lucky me).
So I'm out with my fella, and we're minding our own business when I see a guy wearing a T-shirt with the word "Koran" at the top, but that's all I can see. He's young, buzz cut blonde hair and in good shape. I think at first he might be AD military.
I point out the shirt, curious, so we move in for a closer look.
Then we see the rest of it:
"The Koran, Now in 2-Ply" with a graphic of a guy sitting on a toilet.
I was shocked - I muttered some expletives and called him some choice names out of earshot, but then got mad and decided to approach him. My first though - what would motivate someone to wear such a revolting shirt?
I walk up to asshole with my fella behind me (he wants to beat the living shit out of him). So here's what transpired -
Me: Why are you wearing that T-shirt?
Him: Because I think it's funny. Do you have a problem with it?
Me: Yes I do. It's offensive and you're a real asshole. I have friends who are Muslim who would be deeply insulted if they saw it.
Him: Look - if you don't understand we're in the middle of a holy war right now, you're stupid. It's us against them. The right religion against the wrong religion.
Me: Why do you say Islam is the wrong religion? I really don't understand. You are making a blanket statement about an entire religion based upon the actions of extremists. It works both ways you know - look in the mirror.
At this point he started spitting as he's talking and pointing his finger at me for emphasis.
Him: The Koran was written by a pedophile! The Bible was written by God! That's why Islam is the wrong religion, the false religion! They all deserve to die! They will not win this battle!
Me (laughing): You have got to be kidding me. You are one seriously messed up dude. I feel sorry for you, I really do. I have nothing else to say, you pathetic idiot. My words would be a waste.
He gets really angry now and gets in my face. My fella steps in and they almost come to blows.
Then he says...."you'd better not start anything, I'm a cop".
Oh great. We walk away at that point and I'm not only angry, but kinda nauseated and scared too. I do not feel very good knowing that guy is enforcing the law.
Yeah, it kinda ruined the evening. I just hope asshole gets what he deserves some day.

Sure he was. :eyes: He was a coward looking for a way to make your friend back off. A real cop carries ID with him.

But at that point, we didn't push it. In retrospect, I should have gotten his badge number if he really was a cop.

21. I didn't mean you should've confronted him, demanding ID. |
|
But I burst out laughing when I got to that line in your original post because I've known a few people to say such things themselves (either that or claim to be a lawyer!). I probably would've laughed at him, too, because of it. Either way, who knows what his response to that might've been? It was better to walk away. There's no changing a tiny mind like his. But if he kept insisting on using words like "we're in a holy war" and "battle," I would want to know why he isn't in a military uniform instead of 'fighting' using a picture of toilet paper. :eyes:
But I seriously doubt he was a cop. He was overmatched - in every way - and saw that claim as his way out.
You did good! :patriot:

1 - you don't know he was a cop 2 - what does that have to do with your opinion? 3 - he's a jerk and an idiot

I don't think he'd treat Muslims fairly. It's scary to think of someone like that with a gun and a badge.

Sorry, they were our biggest rivals when I was in High School (long ago). Had a guy named David Bartek, all-State both ways. Unstoppable.
Just kidding about Belton and there are too many ignorant rednecks here. Of course you can always move down here. Love to have you in Austin and we have lotsa cool DUers.

You're right, he was a dipshit. Shoulda seen it around here in the 60's, if you think it is bad now. Then you could have been sure it would have resulted in violence.
You were wise to walk away. People like that are past redemption.

16. That is truly distressing, to say the least |
|
Is there a chance that he is a local cop? Perhaps you could try to find out who he is. Any cop who displays racist symbols or espouses racist rhetoric in public should be reported to his superiors. If they fail to reprimand him or terminate his employment, then the chief of police should lose his/her job.
What an awful thing to hear. :grr:

26. You should have called him on it, and asked to see his badge. |
|
I'm guessing he's no cop. Not a real one, anyway. Maybe a security guard or something who likes to puff himself up with importance.
IF he actually was a cop, taking his badge number and name down might make him think twice about wearing his racist T-shirt. Most police departments would take a dim view of an officer in public promoting racism, even on his own time and in civvies.

29. I would be very polite and say something to the effect of ... |
|
"The other day you said you were a cop....so what department... (or something like that.)
When he tells you ask for to see his badge. Almost every police dept. has regs that they have to show their ID if asked. Especially when they tell you they are the police.
If he won't, he's a fake. If he is, pull out a piece of paper and a pen and write it down. Call the department he works for and ask to speak to his supervisor.
By all means, be polite.
