I wish the goddamn DAM would burst already!
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 03:40 PM by Ripley
I am so tired of the anger and hostility I experience from everyone and everywhere. This pent-up frustration needs a release somewhere!

I just called Directv about some account changes I made yesterday via telephone computerized system. When I finally got a human on the phone he was a complete jackass to me. I asked my question and he gave some bizarre answer I didn't understand. So I told him I was looking at my directv listing right now and asked *politely* again where I could find certain stations. He hung up on me after telling me I wasn't listening to him (he told me he was in Las Vegas). I called back, and a guy from India (sounded like) answered my question and solved the problem in 3 minutes.

I know it's hot. I know customer service jobs suck. But this guy was angry at me from the first word he spoke.

My sister and my Dad are emailing me with either angry words or calling me names because of my political leanings.

My neighbors are flying off the handle. My acquaintances are being belligerent. The strangers in the stores are becoming ruder by the minute.

DUers are infighting like there's no tomorrow.

Blame it on the Full Moon. The Heat. The Whiskey. The Devil himself. Or blame it on the disaster course our Country is headed in and folks are beginning to actually look at the freaking map.

This thing is gonna explode and I can't fucking wait! It will be such a relief whatever happens.

:nuke:

32. Cognitive dissonance is stressful, esp. for people unused to cognition.
Holding their worldview intact despite all the evidence to the contrary and despite rising gas prices requires a bit more mental effort than usual. Sure, you can shut it out, bury your head in the sand -- but they can still feel it hitting them in the wallet .

 :grouphug: Sorry about all the infighting, the namecalling from relatives, and everything else. This summer has been almost unbearable for me, too, in large part because of the heat and generally just being in Texas.

It WILL get better.

Well, maybe not..I'm ready "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis, and it really does seem that we are well on our way. But maybe the future will have some pleasant surprises, maybe a shining knight named Fitzgerald will make a difference, maybe some truth will finally worm its way into the public mind.

Not having been a churchgoer for 25 years, I do still retain an appreciation for the value of the three virtues of faith, hope and love. Have faith that somehow goodness will prevail, hope that we can make a difference, and love to help you forgive -- or at least not hate -- the fascist creeps too brainwashed or ignorant to know better.

I was talking gas prices with people at work and they were complaining how much it cost to fill up their SUV right before they all took seperate cars to Taco Bell accross town!!!!!! I am just about at my boiling point because people are too stupid to realize their own actions are to blame for their problems. There isn't some mysterious force to blame that only politicians can bring back into line. It starts with YOU!

In MY Fairy Land we drive separate SUV's to the Taco Bell for lunch.

In MY Fairy Land we don't understand why gasoline prices keep going up.

In MY Fairy Land we believe the mysterious forces of the Universe make all things unconnected, unknowable and unaccountable. Unless they're Liberals.

16. I know. I am practicing patience, tolerance, listening and calling bs
Letting others have their own problems for themselves, not put them on to me. I know what you mean about DirecTv, had a run around with them a yr ago. Guy on the phone told me I couldn't be seeing what I was seeing. When I asked if he was calling me a liar he said yes. Best thing to do is hang up, call back. I did that this wk with my phone company about $100 LD calls I didn't make (phone service was messed up at the time). Hang up, call back, get someone who will listen and help and won't be working there long. And here on DU I am "not honoring the troops" blah blah blah which is a phrase I fucking hate. Time for another semantic change, forget the "honoring" word, how about respect, gratitude, sympathy, not "honor".

So, I am practicing patience and tolerance and trying to step back, listen, remove my ego and emotions and hopefully be able to deal with it all in a positive manner. Peace

19. Yep. Your message is Good.
But it's just not enough right now.

Something big is happening under the surface. It is blowing out manhole covers in certain areas, and hissing out in tea kettles in other areas.

But the volcano below is real.

America cannot go on like this forever. I don't think we will make it until the 2006 elections without some major changes in our society.

17. "The strangers in the stores are becoming ruder by the minute."
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 03:59 PM by KansDem
Tell me about it!!!

I've got stories of obscene rudeness on the part of customers in stores you wouldn't believe. Stories about getting shopping carts rammed into me with no apology; stories of people cutting in front of me to the point they're almost stepping on my toes and no apology; people who eat like pigs and are oblivious to it; people in restaurants who talk like they're in a sports stadium; on and on.

Just yesterday I go to the post office and am standing at one of the counters where you can address envelopes (not the service counter), where the selection of mailers are kept for priority and express mail. Anyway, out of the corner of my eye I see this man come up and stand just to my side. I'm thinking "What do you want? I know this is a public place, but I'm filling out a couple of USPS money orders and like to have a little privacy." Well, this guy stands there for a few moments and then, without saying a word, leans in front of me to reach across and grab an envelope. I said, "...You need something?" in a cold voice. He says, "Yep..." and, seeing he can't reach what he wants, he then walks around to my other side where it is easier to grab the envelopes.

A few weeks ago at a supermarket, I'm standing in line to pay a utility bill and some fart with a cart tries to push through the line. He needs to go between me and the chain that defines the line--It's obvious there isn't enough room but he just goes and shoves his way through, rubbing and scraping his cart along my butt and the backs of my legs, without saying a word!

Now, if both of these offenders just said "excuse me," or "pardon me," or something similar, I would have been happy to have stood back to let them through. I want only what I give other people: respect. That's not too much to ask!

But I'll tell you this: I've had it with these people. NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!!! If you're rude or impolite to me, YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR ABOUT IT! :grr:

ON EDIT: I think it has a lot to do with the country's leadership. If we have rude, insensitive morons running things, then that's how the people will act.

33. I've seen that for a while....
I started out in tech support, and for the first couple of years, people were okay, and I didn't have *any* irate callers (if you've done tech support, then you know that's a pretty good record). Then it started getting worse ( in addition to some stupidity with benefits ), I started working as a contractor in a corporate helpdesk, which was much better, but still people were starting to get more rude. I did a couple of more years of contracting, and finally ended up jumping ship to one of the local electronics firms, in their data center. It's heaven now, graves, so the only folks I really talk to are European and East Indian, who are all polite. The other IT folks are good, though, if I have to call somebody local at 3am for a firecall, though.

I'm just happy I don't have to deal with the general public anymore. Now, if I didn't have to work with a wingnut coworker, life would be bliss. I refuse to discuss politics or religion with him anymore. He's 63, and has my respect as a Vietnam vet, but he claims to be Libertarian, but still defends Bush on things that I feel are indefensible. Pretty much out and out told me that he thought Dems were traitors since the convention where they took in the protestors. Said the only Dem he liked was Zell Miller. We get along and can have nice discussions for the most part, on things that don't relate to religion or politics, but I've taken to not bringing those things up in conversation.

K.

Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 04:35 PM by LibDemAlways
People speeding through oblivious to pedestrians. And the roads themselves. Do the speed limit and people crawl up your bumper, give you the finger, zoom around to cut you off.

The repuke philosophy of "me me me...who the hell cares about you" is increasingly becoming the norm.

Even if it's gallows humor-- sometimes I think that's all we have.

This past Wednesday's vigil was a great place for me to unload--
it felt so good standing with people who are NORMAL. We were
shouting and waving our arms and people were honking and
waving-- it was very cathartic.

29. the gas prices
add that one into the mix. I know what you mean. My spouse and I were just talking about this the other day. I know the heat is enough to make one want to move to the Anarctica (at least the thought sounds good for now) and gas prices just piss me off everytime I go to the pump. I think there is some buyer's remorse with repubs too. Many would never admit to it, but I think Bush is getting on the nerves of his supporters as well.

Add that all together and it's a combination of frustration ala king!
