Story about a young boy and Rush Limbaugh... |
|
When I was 12 years old, just before or just at the start of high school, Rush Limbaugh came on at 9:30 at night on a TV show. I watched it because it came on before one of my favorite shows. I was intrigued by it and didn't know much about politics yet. I took what he said at face value and saw how the audience reacted. The most interesting parts of the show was when he made a joke about the Democrats saying that the Republicans were not doing enough even though the Republicans were doing more.
One example was an issue dealing with school lunch where Rush kept saying that Democrats wanted you to believe that 2.3 was BIGGER than 3.1 (or something close to that) when dealing with children's school lunches. I laughed at it because they did a funny graphic thing with showing 2.3 BIGGER on the TV screen than 3.1. I kept watching the show for a little while not knowing enough about any of the issues to know better.
Then one day he talked about the environment. That's when the lies he told me came crashing down. He showed two statements saying:
1/3 of all polutants come from cars. 2/3 of all polutants come from Buses, other public transportation, and other things.
Then he said, "They keep complaining about cars trying to make you feel guilty when buses and public transportation polute more than cars!"
I knew math and I knew about the environment and polution. That is when I realized that he had been telling manipulated truths that supported lies that he wanted people to believe. The worst part was that the audiance clapped at that just as they clapped at every other story he ever told. It showed me how you have to not know what he is talking about in order to believe anything he says. Or you have to be in denial, which I will not allow myself to do.

4. I can't say I had an epiphany like that |
|
The first time I saw him was on his TV show. My dad was right there and eventhough he's pretty diehard republican, he said you can't believe half of what rush says. I remember a big part of his show was to show clips of democrats talking and then pan to himself making a funny face. I think that was literally every joke during that segment. Now that's comedy!

5. My favorite old Rush bamboozle was way back... |
|
...maybe when he was still in Stockton, I'm not sure. A guy I knew got me to listen and Rush was talking about a "University study" that related large breasts and lack of intelligence in women.
I knew he was wrong 'cause that's wrong. Have hardly listened at all since then except clips of his ridiculousness.
What a sh_t head.

I'm glad you used your brain and realized you were being dupe. The only way we'll ever get rid of this type of stuff is by not giving them an audience.

8. I admit it, I occasionally listened to him in the 80's.... |
|
always kind of took him as kind of a buffoon, just another shock jock entertainer, but I laughed at some of his stuff....back then, he was even semi-critical of Bush 1 on the size of the deficit (until Poppy invited him over for a sleep over in the Lincoln bedroom,,,,and we thought Michael Jackson was creepy....)
He started getting more and more strident, though...and lost me totally, completely and forever when he made a joke referring to Chelsea Clinton as "the family dog". The girl was in her early to pre-teen years at that time. If you want to go after Clinton on his policies, politics or anything else, do it man on man....going after a little girl publicly like that and humiliating her nation-wide over the public air waves is below despicable. Only the worst kind of cowardly slime ball bully would do something that low. Just the mere mention of his name inspires an acid reflux attack anymore.
