When W is gone, what will the freepers do? |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 12:51 AM by Heaven and Earth
What W offers is purpose and meaning to anyone who binds their beliefs to him in complete loyalty. The more he is threatened, the more such people must stand with him, or else their entire self-concept falls with him, and what person could withstand that without dancing on the precipice of madness? Especially when the moral horror of what they have condoned dawns on them.
It is like in Revenge of the Sith, when Darth Vader realizes he has killed Padme. He doesn't return to the light. Instead, he figures that he is beyond redemption, and plunges deeper into the darkness.
This is happening to Bush supporters now. Consider the man who ran over Cindy Sheehan's crosses. This is probably a man who is for the flag protection amendment, and if you said you wanted to destroy a cross, would you think you were a godless commie atheist traitor. He thinks that he supports the troops.
Now, though, for the sake of his sanity, this man has turned against everything he once believed in. He destroyed crosses that supported the troops, and he believed he was right in doing so. This is a man who is very near to losing everything for a President who doesn't give a rats ass about him.
When Bush is gone, what are these people going to do without the man who gave their lives meaning? What Republican politician can satisfy their need for a cult leader? None of the current crop that I can see. The Bush spin machine has failed them, and they have mostly been damaged beyond repair.
At that point, the Cult of Bush will probably not vote. At least, I hope they won't. The possible alternatives are too frightening to contemplate. Secretly, they will probably want a Democrat in the White House just so they will have a viable scapegoat to pin their ubiquitous dissatisfaction on.
That is my take. What do you think will happen?

4. Maybe they'll realize the error of their ways and donate all of their $$$ |
|
to worthy causes (NARAL, ACLU, the Democratic party). Perhaps they will find a new charismatic leader and follow him to a tropical paradise (I hear Jonestown is up for sale). But most likely they will wallow in self-pity, fear and hatred until their little freeper heads explode.

5. If you are not with the president, then you are with the terrorists. |
|
Therefore, if Shrub leaves office -- no matter that the Constitution places a term limit -- then anyone who takes over is a terrorist, QED. Therein will the freepers find a new career and take up arms against the terrorists who have invaded America. As long as it doesn't involve doing anything other than waving flags and blaming everything on Bill Clinton, that is. And only when there's no football on TV, either.

... and they'll be whipped into a frenzy by Limpballs and Ins-hannity.
Rightwingnut radio will get a re-birth of listeners, getting all over the poor sumbitch that takes over what's left of the US, and the freepoids will feel the hate and go with it.

... they'll latch onto the next guy promising them the moon while picking their pockets.
What Republican politician can satisfy their need for a cult leader? Any number of them. A goodly portion of those yahoos out there who think Bush is the leader of leaders grew up on a steady diet of Ronnie Raygun. They love figureheads, and, lord knows, the Republican Party has a surfeit of those.
There will be no shortage of demagogues available.
