Where has the Rove story gone? |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 11:40 AM by Maestro
Is the MSM just going to let this die? Is law enforcement even going after him? WTF! Really, Clinton has an affair and is persecuted as if he did something so heinous that the Lucifer himself would be more credible in office, yet Rove leaks the name of a CIA operative who coincidentally is the wife of a diplomat that brought bad news to *, no yellow cakes being purchased by Saddam. Wow! The priorities in this country are so screwed up.

it has went the way it has because all of the incestuous Washington reporters all ready know the answers and feel like it is no big deal. You know, sort of like a secret all the insiders know and think everyone else knows as well.
Frankly, Washington repeaters have grown from wanting to be the next Woodward and Bernstein to the next host of a news show on TV and to get that you certainly can't be a great journalist and actual reporter (that is unless you are someone like Bill Moyers, but then you just get retired early and often).

7. The leaks seem to have stopped. |
|
What really got this case into the news was the reporters' testimony/jailing. Once the story was in the news, Rove's attorney and the witnesses leaked information for their own reasons. The heavy news coverage could make it difficult for the prosecutor to get a good venue, a good jury, etc. Also, some of it could have been seen as intended to pressure the prosecutor into bringing or not bringing an indictment or indictments. In the interest of justice, therefore, the prosecutor may have asked Rove's attorney and witnesses to stop talking to the public and press about the case. This is just a theory, but, unless someone else has a better explanation, I think it is pretty good.
We can continue to discuss Rove here, but we aren't creating news. The press would be more likely to continue to report this if there were new tidbits being served up. Also, Bush's escape to Crawford has taken the pressure of White House news conferences off of that source of news. Bush has basically clammed up and is successfully controlling the news spin through silence and distractions such as the bike ride.

inside information on when and if they may be coming down?
More importantly, if there are indictments, who will be responsible for the prosecution and how will we be able to trust that person/process?

Fitzy is working hard and he has a mountain of sealed evidence to indict. I have a feeling he put a lid on the leaks because it would hurt his prosecution.
Any time between now and October (maybe later) the GJ could indict; it will catch everyone off guard and become the biggest story of the bush presidency.

15. What would you do if you were the grand jury? |
|
But neither the DSM nor Rove/Plame have gone away. They are still bubbling away below the surface.
Cindy Sheehan still mentions the Downing Street Minutes every time she has the chance.
Patrick Fitzgerald surely has not forgot Rove/Plame, but the secrecy of the grand jury has it under a veil until they come to a point where they either hand down indictments, or they release information. The latter should happen soon.
Consider the situation.
Assume
* Rove/Plame goes to the very top of the administration. * Congress is in the control of the same corrupt party organization that brought on these violations of law. They are de facto parties to the cover-up by their willingness to drink the same kool-aid as the conspirators. * The two-year investigation has come to some conclusions calling for indictments of some very high up officials, maybe even the president and veep. * The Repugs have a long history of responding to these things by attacking the messanger in a most vociferous manner.
When would you choose to hand down indictments? If you care about the rule of law wouldn't you want the indictments to be taken seriously by the populace and by the DOJ? The law breakers are the very people with the Constitutional mandate to enforce the laws of the land.
These questions may not be answered until the grand jury speaks.
What would you do?

One of two scenarios,IMO, will play out. Both involve indictments. Either Fitzgerald will smalltime it and go after aides (possibly incld. Rove) for the leak itself - or Fitzgerald will find higher involvement beyond the leak. Many of posters here, including myself, believe that the leak is merely a single exposure of a much bigger crime (lying about the war). If the Grand Jury goes for the whole (yellow) cake, this could be the singlemost cataclysmic event in our nation's history. Based upon the actions of the ruling junta thus far, we can expect intense obstructionary and diversionary tactics.

IMO, the news isn't playing out the way that he would want it to play.
He would have smeared Cindy all over the map by now.
For some reason I feel that a lot of his Press Nannies are not so attached to him as before.

21. Well, there's always independent investigative journalism. |
|
But I do not think that the entertainment media owned news purveyors are doing much investigation these days. Their investigations seem to center on Googling the blogs, reading the news wires, and, of course, the RNC daily talking points.
Some day, hopefully soon, somebody will found a news organization that actually does journalism. Don't hold your breath.

over and over? Of course not, but they, the MSM, do repeat asinine stories over and over again. I was just wondering why Rovegate wasn't one of them. It is good to know though that Fitzgerald is still working on it.

26. Hope I'm wrong, but don't think the Bushies are worried... |
|
I would not be surprised if Bush has told Rove not to worry because even if he is indicted, he will be pardoned. That Bush will come out later and say that he doesn't think Rove meant to commit a criminal act and doesn't deserve to be indicted. Sure, Rove will probably have to resign, but really, how does that hurt Rove?
And if Bush does pardon Rove (recall, Poppy Bush pardoned his own cronies BEFORE they were even tried, so no conviction is needed) it will be just before he leaves office. Think of it - any "trial" date would be set, postponed, continued and so on until Bush leaves office).
Also, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the final conclusion from the Special Prosecutor's office is that while laws were broken, the "intent" to do so wasn't there and while the acts were despicable, indictments may not be issued.
Call this the pessimist in me.....as well as the slippery coating on the Bushies that prevents anything from sticking.

In both cases, it's all about Iraq. And Cindy is the brand new face. And she's got a growing movement down in Crawford.
