Who would be closer to your view on the war in Iraq? Hagel or Hillary? |
|
Hagel says we should withdraw. The longer we stay, the worse it will get. Hillary says we cannot leave now. We have to help the Iraqis rebuild.
Which position is closer to your own? ANd is the war alone an issue that is worth voting for or against? Just curious?

1. I like Hillary but I would have to go with Hagel, and NO, the war is |
|
not the only issue at hand here when voting..

2. Without a doubt, the line Hagel is mouthing is closer to my view, BUT... |
|
Any Republican, even if they are agreement with ALL of my view 100 percent could probably never get my vote unless they publicly renounced the Bush administration and their ties to it.
All Republicans are so tainted by this association I'm not sure they could properly "atone".
Doesn't mean I'd necessarily vote for Hilary Clinton though.

I could vote for a ticket like Feingold/Hagel before I would vote for two pro-war Democrats...so long as Hagel was 2nd on the ticket.

5. no question about it, Hagel |
|
but if it comes down to between Hagel and Hillary, I will NOT vote for either. They both voted for us to go into Iraq
Russ Feingold for 2008
It is time we get back to our basic Democratic principles and integrity

6. I would vote for Hillary over Hagel |
|
because Republicans lie through their teeth. Whatever they say now, I would trust Hillary to get us out of Iraq in a better way than Hagel.
I would also trust Hillary on every other issue before I would trust any Republican.
Remember when W said he didn't believe in nation building? Remember when he said there should always be an exit strategy?
That said, Hillary is not my choice for president. I think there are better Democrats.

Hagel is a war vet. He is out on a limb in criticizing the war. Hillary is an appeaser, again taking the middle ground, again being a follower instead of a leader.
The war is the biggest problem we face as a country right now, because it impacts every other major issue. So yes, the war along is worth voting for or against.

There is no good result to be gained. Nothing will improve by staying. If we pull out, the Iraqis have a number of choices: Civil war, which was inevitable when Saddam croaked, anyway, because his idiot sons wouldn't have been able to hold things together; or calling in the UN to referee the sides; or asking Iran to take over which would give Iran the headache from hell and keep it busy for decades. Iran might decide to move in, anyway, and I would personally LOVE that. Much better it be their headache than ours.
If we stay, the MidEast is united against the United States. If we leave, no matter how much they rightly blame us, they get to go back to hating each other...a much happier result for US.
There is no good solution for the Iraqis. But we are just throwing good money after bad if we stay. Do we really plan to wait until we can put another 50,000 names on a black wall?

but I would NEVER vote for any chimp enabler. I'd only vote for Clinton if she changes her hawkish positions and renounces her own chimp enabling. Sheeesh, what a disappointment she has turned out to be.

11. well, since they both voted us into the war |
|
I would say neither.
As far as who we will vote for in 2008, please people, don't get fooled by Hagel. He loves to play the independent, but that's not what his record shows:
*Rated 36% by the NEA, indicating a mixed record on public education. (Dec 2003)
*Rated 0% by the LCV, indicating anti-environment votes. (Dec 2003)
*Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition: a pro-family voting record. (Dec 2003)
*Rated 92% by CATO, indicating a pro-free trade voting record. (Dec 2002)
*Rated A by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun rights voting record. (Dec 2003)
*Rated 12% by APHA, indicating a anti-public health voting record. (Dec 2003)
*Rated 8% by the AFL-CIO, indicating an anti-labor voting record. (Dec 2003)
*Rated 22% by the ARA, indicating an anti-senior voting record. (Dec 2003)

12. I can't answer the question - I cannot tolerate anything about Hagel |
|
because of his participation in the theft of our vote. I barely tolerate Hillary - after a decade and a half of admiring and defending her.
Hagel should not get glorified attention from Dems because of his participation in E S & S.
Our vote is more precious than his positions.

13. Hagel. No doubt about it. |
|
The difference is that Hagel is obviously a person of conscience and Hillary obviously is not. What happened to Hillary might be a good question to ask.

She is just positioning herself to have a chance at the presidency. So is Hagel, btw, as there are already enough pro-war Repubs, he has to distinguish himself by moving toward the center. Both are just using electoral politics, and I always vote Democrat.

that if we withdraw we should leave a few advisors in place (and I mean skilled commanders and knowledgable soldiers/marines) to continue training Iraqi soldiers, but the majority of soldiers should be brought home.

17. What he says is more in my line of thinking. What he would really do, |
|
well one has to wonder. He is a Nebraska republican. He has been known to lie to cover his ass and get what he wants. I'd have to think about it.
But Hillary, she's lost me before we even get out of the gate. And I really wish people would stop promoting her. She hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of being the next president of the United(?) States.

18. The truth is I don't know what to believe. |
|
Hagel's words appeal to me right now, but I also think that Iraq could become a bloodbath of epic proportions if we pull out. Then again, it might anyway.
I'd get in a room with Wes Clark and Anthony Zinni, and I'd ask them to hash it out. Whatever they could agree on, I'd see as a viable solution. I'm willing to bet that whatever their recommendation would be, it would NOT be open ended.

19. Hagel without a doubt |
|
The war is not the only thing I will be voting on but, as far as I can see right now they would screw up domestic policy equally. Also, it would be way cool to have the president be from my little state. Who would I vote for in this head to head matchup? Probably write in Ross Perot.

20. neither of their positions should be taken at face value |
|
it's positioning for both of them. Hagel is more hawkish than his recent Iraq comments, and Hillary is more dovish than hers.
Feingold on the other hand has been pretty consistent, and I'll be with him in 2008.
