Trent Lott letting the cat out of the bag ( video) |
|
Trent Lott had private conversations with Bush about Iraq "going back to just after 9/11" Lott on Meet the Press with David Gregory admitted that President Bush had Iraq in his cross-hairs long before the "last resort" comments were made. http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/08/21.html#a4551

3. That's true...Lott has a huge ax to grind. |
|
I don't care if it's retribution or not on Lott's part. This is big. When some members of the team aren't playing on the same rulebook, this is even more bad news for Rove and company.

5. the OBVIOUS question is.....where did David Gregory go with such |
|
a blockbuster?
nowhere?
I thought so
a real journalist would have the instinct to ride this into the ground, as the usual host always does if the guest wears a D on his sleeve
for those of you who like David Gregory, if he didn't follow up on this, WHY, then, did he dog Lott like a tailsniffin puppydog on the imbroglio that got him dumped as Senate Maj leader? I watched that, and couldn't care less about that, especially in comparison with the gigantic story that this should be, which, once again, reinforces the CLEAR KNOWLEDGE that they've been lying all the time about when they decided to go after Iraq.

6. We didn't need Senator Lott to tell us this |
|
Paul O'Neill and Richard Clarke, among others, have made it very clear that the regime saw the attacks as an opportunity to move agaisnt Saddam in the way that PNAC had been advocating for years. Bush and Rumsfeld, it seemed, even had to be persuaded to go after Osama first before going after Saddam.

9. They were both appointees. |

Policy wonks. The general public doesn't know them from Adam, or what their respective qualifications are. They are easy to marginalize.
Lott is an elected public official. A senator. Even though O'Neill and Clarke have a lot more credibility with people who are paying attention, Lott has a lot more credibility with the general public (no pun intended).
