Counterfactual History On Iraq
Now that it is apparent that Colin Powell had great misgiving about the "intelligence" on which the invasion of Iraq was based what if he had resigned instead of giving the U N speech that was a prelude to the war....

What if Bush had went ahead with the war despite Powell's reservations and it turned into the fiasco it has become...

Given the closeness of the election this most certainly would have tipped it in Kerry's favor...

When the judgment of history is made it will not be kind to Mr. Powell... He will become in my opinion the Robert McNamara of his generation....

1. Mr. Powell's alleged "private" post-invasion handwringing
is, as far as I can tell, nothing but some kind of belated cover your ass thing; his performance as the noble "good soldier" and this widespread media baloney about how widely he is viewed as a noble "statesman" is a bunch of hype.

5. I'm Interested
Why was Kerry morally repugnant?

He seemed no more or no less moral than your garden variety politician and Kerry didn't need to swing alot of votes to win.....

7. Colin Should Have Pulled A McClellan
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 05:22 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
Colin should have pulled a McClellan and ran against Bush but unlike the other general he would have been on the side of the angels...

I don't know whether to pity him or scorn him....

9. Nothing
A case of mistaken loyalty...

He takes an oath to defend the Constitution not the administration....

Cy Vance resigned from the Carter administration because he opposed the ill fated hostage rescue mission in Iran....

Carter should have listened to him....

Not because it was wrong to try to use force to rescue the hostages but because the plan was foolhardy...
