Poll question: POLL: Get rid of DLC whores now or later?
The DLC is obviously the big business insurance policy so that even if the GOP is knocked from power, their interests will be catered to.

Likewise, the DLC is a big part of why democrats have been silent about the worst abuses of the Bushies, not out of cowardice, but because they APPROVE OF THEM.

That the DLC has to go for us to have a real two party (or more system) should be beyond debate.

The question here is should we try to displace them between now and 2008, including running more progressive candidates against them in primaries, run against them after we get the Bushies out, or just replace them as they retire?

2. They need to be dealt with soon, one way or another.
I'll never forget Bush is the biggest enemy, but we do need a functional front line in our battle with him.

P.S. Could we find a better word than purge? IT makes me think of binge and purge dieting and Stalin's purges of dissedents, two things that don't really remind me of making a better democratic party.

18. I would just ask for parties with truth in advertising name
have a progressive party, a religious right party, and a Chamber of Commerce party. That way, everyone would know who they are voting for.

When Arnold ran here, it was obvious to a lot of republicans that he wasn't a conservative in the sense that they usually thought of it--he was a Chamber of Commerce candidate with liberal cultural issues window dressing.

7. I think they need to form their own conservative party.
I'm sure the majority of disillusioned Republicans, who can no longer stomach the neo-cons, will join them. This would be a good thing because draining the ranks of the Republican Party as it is now would make them ineffective political dinosaurs. Then we could as Democrats continue our traditional role as the party of the working class. The new conservative Party could pursue whatever their ideals are. Cheeze maybe we could get back to being Americans.

10. If the DLC formed a conservative party...
Made up of disillusioned democrats and pissed of Republican it would in the 2008 elections in a walk.

However,, we choose to stay and continually remind liberals tht ours is the part of inclusion and you can not when without a moderate voice.

Why are you hanging on to our tie-dyed coattails? If you guys are honest and honor the constitution and dump the graft and corruption, I don't think most of us will mind if you do win. However, I think you all are as corrupt as the rest.

20. YEP--Dean is actually pretty moderate. Difference is business friendly...
vs. business owned.

Clearly the business community doesn't want to take a chance on someone who is just "friendly" they want candidates they can dictate to.

13. I have NEVER hesitated to speak out against the DLC..however
I take a look at how the right-wing took control of the GOP. There was a time when there were actual liberals and moderates in their party. I believe that even our DNC Chair Howard Dean began as a liberal Republican. There were calls to purge them..but instead the right wing just transformed the GOP into a distinctly right-wing party.

I believe that genuine progressives and liberals need to concentrate on changing the Democratic Party into a genuinely liberal/social-democratic party.

I have nothing but loathing for the corporate sycophants of the DLC--But let's concentrate more on winning converts than expelling heretics. I think it will do more good.

if we pretend they don't exist, or worse, that they are on our side.

DLC or not, calling other Democratic party members 'whores' and 'traitors' and similar is simply not appropriate for DU.
