Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 08:15 PM by growlypants
I am just wondering how many of you guys dont have TV anymore (I basically mean cable, because regular TV is worthless anyway, there are no channels). I turned my cable off 3 months ago and never looked back. I went from TV on all night (I left it on when I was asleep, it's a whole mental disorder thing I think. Dont like to be in total silence...my thoughts sometimes drive me nutso....TV distracted me. I guess I "think too much")to no TV whatsoever. Now I leave Air America streaming all night, but I'm sometimes kept up all night because by the time Mike Malloy goes off, I'm usually FURIOUS! I think that we libs/lefties are more likely NOT to have TV than the repugs. Hence, we are more intelligent.

11. what happened to air america
No Tv at all, just sirius satellite radio, which I bought for Air America. Now I don't have them, they took the money from Rufurd Murdock XM satellite , and left us Sirius subscriber holding the bag.

Streaming not that good, I live in a rural area, and when I stream them I disconnect more than connect, that's why I bought sirius satellite...

3. No TV at all since 11/2000
The day after the election debacle in 2000, my TV stopped working. I considered it some kind of sign. I expect that if or when the country escapes the clutches of the criminals now in control, it will magically start working again.

Then again, if all these DUers say "turn on CNN now!" Who needs DU?

Maybe I'm dead wrong, but I haven't watched TV for over 2 and 1/2 years now.

I see people busting a gut over these shows that are made to pull their strings and I laugh

Occasionally turn it on for an Alfred Hitchcock. If I can get the agreement of another in my household, I'm ready to disconnect the cable.

I'd so much rather download some podcasts or listen to music.

But we do get a few channels-nbc, cbs, abc, pbs and fox. We usually can find something we want to watch because dh and I are reality show addicts and also like pbs a lot. We watch the local news but I usually want to pick up the t.v and throw it when dh watches the network news! LOL! :argh:

We turned off our expanded cable about 5 months ago, just get basic so we can get local channels (too many hills to get good reception otherwise). We only used the expanded cable to watch Jon Stewart; we'd stopped watching CNN, figured we'd save some $$$...

But I don't watch any of the basic channels, I don't watch the big news networks, since it's republican controlled, I only mainly watch C-SPAN, C-SPAN2, Comedy Central(only for the Daily Show and Reno 911) History Channel once in awhile and Cartoon Network for Adult Swim, thats about it. At night,I spend it online.

23. Who doesn't have "cable" anymore
I have not had cable for several years now. Tried it during the sumnner special a couple of years back and gave up. How many times can you watch Sandra Bullock as "Miss Congeniality"?

I got it 25 years ago when it was $10 a month and kept it for years until I got sick of the repeats. Now the service is $46.00 per month. On regular TV I only get 3 stations and guess what? I watch the 5:30 pm national news and that is all. One half hour per day.

I'm a retired print media journalist and spend most of my time writing on the computer. I have a column I update every two or three days and for freelancing, am currently editing a novel

28. I have to have the MOST basic form of cable in order to
have a cable modem. I tried to JUST have the cable modem and TOTALLY cancel the cable tv part but the would raise the price of the stupid cable modem to meet what you were paying when you had cable tv too. Its a total scam. Comcast is totally raping us.

or is it over a year now approaching 2?

i've lost all sense of time.

IF and when they get around to letting me choose the few channels i want, and pay accordingly, i'm not interested.

27. Will you even consider "specific TV"?
I have satellite and I watch c-span, c-span2, LinkTV, FreeSpeach TV and I will sometimes watch the Chinese news and BBC news in the early a.m.

My kids watch Animal Planet, Discovery, National Geographic, History International and the History Channel(sometimes).

Link and FreeSpeach have some excellent documentaries on that my kids watch with me that are much more informative than the History Channel, and 2 of them regularly watch c-span with me, even while getting ready for school, etc., so it's difficult for me to just turn it all off.

37. Sounds like me
I have a tv and cable but it hasn't been turned on in over two weeks and the only reason it was turned on then was my nephews were visiting. Except for West Wing and a few home improvement shows my tv is almost never on - but my internet to Air America and other liberal talk shows is on almost all the time including while I sleep however I tune to Bernie Ward once Mike Malloy is over unless I've already fallen asleep which is most of the time since I'm on the east coast.

But I'm going to have to turn the thing on at 11:00 tonight!!!

47. foreign movies
I just watch tv mainly in winter time, not always a greater reader, so tv helps with boredom when can't get outside enough. Those reruns of "everybody loves raymond" at night really make me want to throw the tv out.

I also mainly get my kicks from foreign films. They seem to be sexier and more about real life than the american blockbusters.

I'm pretty down-to-earth...I grow our own food, am active to protect the environment, etc. but I like TV and I'm not about to give it up. Sure, most of it is garbage right now but I have hope for the future of television. Even now, as biased as it is, there are plenty of really great things on TV. I just program my clicker to block out all the offensive stuff (FOX News, etc.) HBO is totally awesome. Current shows a lot of pods that dig into the truth of the world. LINK tv is all lefty stuff. TV isn't going to go away. I admire you who turn it off but I'd rather support the GOOD TV so when people do turn it on, there will be something decent and informative to watch.
