19. No, I decide by subject |
|
granted there are some snobs here at DU but I'm not one of them. I decide what to read by subject. There are a couple of individuals I do make sure I read but I exclude no one based on name.

Because some people (only a few) reliably post drivel, while others reliably post well thought-out commentary.

6. I can honestly say there is only one I avoid like a plague. |
|
But other than that, I read the topic and don't usually notice the name...
what prompted the question btw?

Sometimes I wonder if my screen name is a negative and wondered if there are any biases when clicking on threads.
There's a lot of info on DU and I was curious if screen name was a method of determining what people read.

In fact, with a message board as large as this one, I hardly recognize or even notice the names. In fact, personally I should probably pay more attention. But, going from my own name, you can probably figure how much worth I put in the labels.

It's the title of the thread that will get me to read it.

Although I always make it a habit to read the subject line before I read the thread.

But, it's not the screen name per se. It is people I recognize that I either don't read or love to read.

16. No. Particularly since there seem to be so many new posters |
|
(with high number of posts) whose names I don't recognize. Though there are some "old-timer's" who consistently start interesting threads. So I do tend to read first, if I'm short on time.

17. No, but I click on some with great expectations |
|
because some screen names mean either links to excellent articles or thoughtful and/or witty commentary. (You know who you are!)

21. People pay me to read their threads |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 11:33 AM by Solly Mack
All in all it's been a good deal. I get a little cash on the side, a few good laughs and, more often than not, some truly outstanding writing.

Usually it is the title of a thread which will get my attention. I don't tend to look at peoples names unless I am replying.
