George W. Bush's Job Approval Ratings Drop

George W. Bush's overall job approval ratings have dropped from a month ago even as Americans who approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president are turning more optimistic about their personal financial situations according to the latest survey from the American Research Group. Among all Americans, 36% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 58% disapprove. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, 33% approve and 62% disapprove.

Among Americans registered to vote, 38% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 56% disapprove, and 36% approve of the way Bush is handling the economy and 60% disapprove.

This is the second month in a row when improving economic ratings have not been matched by higher job approval ratings for Bush. A total of 24% of Americans now say their personal financial situations are getting better, up from 17% in July, and 27% say they believe that their personal financial situations will be better off a year from now, which is up from 21% in July.

The increases in the personal financial ratings, however, are coming mainly from those approving of the way Bush is handling his job. A total of 54% of those approving the way Bush is handling his job say their personal financial situations are getting better, compared to 5% of those saying they disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job, and 61% of those saying they approve of the way Bush is handling his job say they expect to be better off a year from now, compared to 6% of those saying they disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job.

The results presented here are based on 1,100 completed telephone interviews conducted among a nationwide random sample of adults 18 years and older. The interviews were completed August 18 through 21, 2005. The theoretical margin of error for the total sample is plus or minus 2.6 percentage points, 95% of the time, on questions where opinion is evenly split.

Overall, 36% of Americans say that they approve of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president, 58% disapprove, and 6% are undecided.

7. Based Upon The Most Recent Demographic Studies. . .
. . .about 24% if the floor. These 24% would support him if Satan himself did a live TV apperance and called Silverspoon "his boy-Georgie!" It's a combination of religious homophobes, bigots, ideological nutjobs, and folks who are flat out paralyzed by fear.

But, at this point, he's really 64% neutral or disapprove out of only 76%. So, he's hit the 1 out 6, who aren't the lunatic fringe or flat out sociopaths, supporting him. 1 out of 6!

want to admit (even to themselves) that they were wrong.

3. Figure probably inflated, like his ego.
Where I live, VERY GOP, many people estimate it is much lower. "Only 20% of the people are buying his crap, and they are imbeciles anyway; no point in worrying about them. They are hopeless." *

*Actual quote from registered Republican who talks to a lotta people in the area.

Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 11:19 AM by Glenda
http://www.gallup.com/poll/content/login.aspx?ci=17860

August Gallup Poll Shows No Uptick in Consumer Optimism
Majority continues to say economy getting worse

(8/16/05)

"Gallup's first economic update in August shows that Americans, on average, continue to believe that economic conditions in the United States are getting worse, not better. Only a little more than a third are willing to rate the economy as "excellent" or "good." A majority says it is a bad time to find a quality job. About a third of Americans name some aspect of the economy as the most important problem facing the country today. In none of these instances are there signs of a sustained recovery in consumer confidence. In most instances, the public's views on the economy remain more depressed than they were at the beginning of this year."

That would be the hardcore repug base. If you only count the "base" he is working for then it would be, roughly, 2% of Americans.

And the crazy looks from * whenever Kerry spoke.

You know, I still to this day can't believe we don't have the thoughful, compassionate one. I always think of his testimony during the Vietnam war and think to myself, "Why can't we have that one as Prez!?" Such a good person, and Teresa and the daughters and stepsons... All so wonderful!

29. Remember the great sport the media had with Gore?
He changes with every debate! Which Al is going to show up this time?!

Meanwhile, Pinhead goes from slack-jawed yokel to raging madman to genial boob and the fucking primetime bobbleheads don't even notice.

30. I saw a Gore/* debate back then
and thought, "Oh good, no one in their right mind would ever vote for Bush. He's such a moron!"

Apparently we have a lot of people not in their right minds in this country.

That was back when I didn't pay attention to the media, so I didn't realize at the time they were so negative on Gore. *groan*

32. All Al did from one debate to the next
was dial back his aggressiveness. He wasn't bashful about demonstrating his command of the topics they debated and the press decided that was unforgivable. He was branded a Star of the Class Apple Polisher, so he reined it in. And for that, the beltway circlejerkers branded him an inauthentic showboat.

In the Kerry debates, Chimpy invented entirely new personas from one to the next, he was Jekyll/Hyde. Not ONE poofy-haired media git deigned to notice.

I remember his Dad sunk in the low-40s doldrums, with the occasional 30s for specific issues, when Clinton whupped him. And you're right, not being able to best his Dad, even in his worst moments, will steam his clams more than anything else.

38. They really thought that
they could trade off 9/11 forever and screwing the 'little people' would be a breeze. In every way, this administration has hurt the working class, people they care nothing about.

I foresee many Republicans running from this president now. But, imo, it's too late. They got their 'screw the working-class' legislation through and those who helped them need to be thrown out of office ASAP, both parties!!

I am glad to see the polls, but I am also livid that it took this long and so, so many deaths ~ it's hard to forgive the willfully blind for that ~
