The Local National Guard Left For Service Today |
|
Gone to IN for 2 months to train before heading to Iraq. We had young men (19 years old) to propose to girls my age (17) yesterday and other, well, just troubling signs. It almost looked like the movie "Pearl Harbor" the way everyone was acting. There are yellow ribbons hanging all over main street. This war has hit the heart and sould of America-- Andalusia, AL. I really don't know what to say, other than this is very, very saddening.
I hope and pray that every one of them make it home safely and that this whole quagmire can be resolved soon. I just doubt either one of those things will happen. Just ask someone living in Tallmadge, Ohio.

I hope all your young men come home, alive and whole. And come home soon.

2. We have a National Guard unit that is "based" in my hometown |
|
a transportation unit.
I watched 2 deployments:the first Gulf War and this one
Actually watched as they rolled out of town
You are right. Main Street America cares about its soldiers and it is an awful day when they leave us. The soldiers themselves are all choked up as they drive past. You can see them struggling not to break down-swallowing a lot and rapidly blinking, eyes trying to stay straight ahead.
I'll never forget what it looks like
