Question re: This week's top ten conservative idiots
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 05:31 AM by ET Awful
I pointed this out yesterday, and didn't get any real response.

I'm just curious what the source was for the number 10 idiot (who is no doubt an idiot).

I did a Google search for the guy's name (after someone mentioned him and before I knew he was on the top 10 list), and all I could find is this article: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=15055153&BRD=2259&PAG=461&dept_id=455154&rfi=6

So, is he a conservative whackjob, a run of the mill whack job or a really far left whackjob? Or is he a conservative whackjob posing as an anti-war whackjob to cast doubt? I don't know for sure.

Does anyone else have any idea?

1. I think he was included for "getting physical" in a colorful way...
...he tried to snatch a protest sign, and was caught on camera doing so.

2. Yes, but he was referred to as

"an ardent Bush supporter."

If that's not correct, it should be edited. If, in fact, he's not a conservative, that should be mentioned as well, IMO.

If you read the article I linked to above, you'll see tha the was shouting anti-war stuff while he was doing all this. I find that to be odd behaviour for a conservative.

Just trying to find the truth is all.

but not with the method of protest - his contention is that the war is about oil.

You just may be onto something - he may not be a DU-type, but if he's a conservative whackjob he sure seems anti-Bush.

Here's another link:

is definitely a stupid thing to do but the guy made some sense also.

From the article:

All was quiet until, at about 8 p.m., Muchler barged into the circle in the Square and shattered the silence.
"If you want to stop the war, stop driving your car. Bush is an oil man," he shouted. "That's what the war is all about. Oil."

"It's blood for oil. Blood for oil," he hollered as he revved his motorcycle and drove off.

In my view he's no Bush supporter, rather than a weird kind of Jim Kunstler buff.

From the 8-15 entry in The Clusterfuck Nation Chronicle:

Which gets back to the war per se. Because if anyone asked me to define what the war is about -- and people have asked -- I would say the war is a desperate attempt by the US to stabilize the region of the world where two-thirds of the remaining global oil supply exists in order for Americans like Harry Shearer to continue enjoying a lifestyle of extreme car dependency.

Harry Shearer with his attitude of moral superiority reminds me of my neighbor here in Saratoga Springs, the lady with the "War Is NOT the Answer" bumper sticker on her Ford Expedition. For people who want to keep on enjoying an easy motoring utopia, war is the answer.

This, of course, is the predicament of the Democrats, my own party. They have no interest in modifying the nation's suicidal suburban sprawl lifestyle either, only in the easy pretenses of political correctness. Instead of twanging on WMDs and the depravity of the war in Iraq, I'd like to hear someone like Harry Shearer (or John Kerry, or Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid) stand up and pitch for restoring the US passenger rail system. I'd like to hear some of these assholes propose some meaningful changes that Americans can make in behavior so we won't be so desperate to engage in military contests over the oil we need to drive for sushi in Los Angeles.

5. Switzerblog calls Muchler "the face of the wacky left"
which is in line with your quotes from Kunstler.
