Contrast and compare (Abu Ghraib)
I ask you to uphold the values of America, and remember why so many have come here. We are in a fight for our principles, and our first responsibility is to live by them. No one should be singled out for unfair treatment or unkind words because of their ethnic background or religious faith. (Applause.)

Bush in 2001, speaking to congress after 9/11.

Compare to :
Installing a policy of torture, carried out in other countries outside of the US, to extract data from people who are to a large extent, innocent people being arrested for having a certain look.

Link for the second : Symour Hersch

Discuss amongst yourselves. Because DU is multithreading :-)

1. More compare and contrast
Compare this extract from Bush's speech to the veterans yesterday:

Our enemies have no regard for human life. They're trying to hijack a great religion to justify a dark vision that rejects freedom and tolerance and dissent.
(...)
They kill the innocent. They kill women and children knowing that the images of their brutality will horrify civilized peoples.

with "Unseen War", images published today by Salon (WARNING: extremely disturbing):

And note that the dead people in these photos were NOT killed by "terrorists" or insurgents.
