I'm sure his intention when dropping the Assassination-Bomb was to make people think it was a legitimate thing to do. It wasn't supposed to spark a debate. It was just supposed to seep into the public conscience and be filed away as something that was an option.

It seems like he achieved the exact opposite response he desired.

2. The rightwing has explicitly accepted assassination
since at least 2002. They were advocating the assassination of Saddam Hussein without an ounce of self-consciousness or conscience, and they had arguments to justify their position. Some called it 'real politik', but it was hardly RP. In actuality, we are seeing the sociopathic product of rightwing jingoist propaganda disseminated through talk shows over the last few decades. These people have lost all connection with the better part of their humanity, and only sickness is left.

3. Exactly. It's interesting that the reaction with Chavez is so different.
Obviously, a lot has to do with the fact that Chavez is nothing like Hussein. But I would have expected Robertson to have been ignored. Instead, the condemnation is overwhelming and unanimous.
