The BRAC commission OK'd closing all 4 of the bases in Ga.
I know lots of people around here thought it wouldn't happen because good old Isackson and Chambliss are such well loved Pubs, they'll make sure our States bases will be protected.

We will loose 4,404 military jobs and 2,715 civilian jobs.

I wonder just how much the people in those 4 towns love their Pub choices now?

1. I am truly sorry
That those who didn't vote for Bush will lose their jobs, as for those who felt that the Republican Party and its choices represented
their values, they can go pound sand.

I hear the U.S. military has openings, and the National Guard will take prior service personnel up to age 46. So direct the Bush lovers
towards the nearest recruiting office.

As for the ones who didn't vote for the Republican choices, you have my heartfelt sorrow and prayers for you and your families.

2. Athens and Atlanta are blue towns.
We Athenians love our US Naval Supply Corps School. It's a integral part of Athens. The campus is beautiful.

I think the real story is the plan to hurt Blue cities and counties and then "give" the land to RW developers to build something crappy on (like student apartment slums) instead of repurposing the historic old campus (huge old trees and historic buildings) for the public good.
:grr:
I don't see them cutting funds for the School of the Americas, Kings Bay Naval Base, Fort Benning, Fort Stewart, etc. I'm surprised that they are cutting a base in Marietta since it's in Red Cobb County.

From the article:
Georgia is currently home to a total of 13 military facilities: Fort McPherson in Atlanta; Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta; Naval Air Station-Atlanta in Marietta; Fort Gillem in Forest Park, Fort Benning in Columbus; Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins; Fort Stewart in Hinesville; Fort Gordon in Augusta; Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta; Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah; Kings Bay Naval Base in St. Marys; Navy Supply Corps School in Athens; and the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.

3. I live in Atlanta
the tighty-righty types here at work are a little miffed today. They thought their boys had Georgia protected. We're such a red state and a big favorite with Dubya. Whenever he needs one of his infommercials, he jets in to stumble through a little speech in front of carefully vetted good ole boys and girls.
Oh, well. As faithful family retainer Katherine Harris found out, the Bushies will use you and abuse you. Quicker than you can say oil cartel, the Bushies have you in the dustbin and are back within their fatcat circle laughing at how they manipulated the underlings.
Perdue and Chambliss don't have the juice they promised. The pubs in Georgia were swindled.
I'm crying my eyes out.

5. Well, goody, goody! As a native Georgian...
the damn state deserves it for sliming Max Cleland the way they did. I'm sure that Chambliss, Isaakson, and that cartoon-character governor can lie and bluster their way though this, though, and make it the fault of the Democrats. Damn them to everlasting hell. I used to be SO proud of being a Georgian, but now I never mention it. The shame is just too much to bear. I live in Mississippi, now, and say what you will, at least it has nowhere to go but up. But as a political reality, Georgia has had FIVE one-term US Senators in a row, preceded by the disgraced Herman Talmadge. It's no wonder the state has zero clout anymore. I can't think of another instance of this happening in a state's senatorial delegation.

 :grr:

8. you left the critical racial component
of the Southern strategy. It's still very much a part of the Republican hold on the South. No, it's not as blatant. The politicos have learned to craft their terms in code. "Urban Youth" is one of their terms. I live in Atlanta. Trust me. Racism is alive and flourishing within the Republican Party.
Poor old Bob Barr won't even admit he's black.
(according to him, he just "photographs black". Cynthia continues to send him mail from the Congressional Black Caucus, bless her.)

7. Remarkable
I guess Georgia has no juice in Washington. I figured with the state's recently ascendant Republicanism, Bushco would've twisted arms to keep Georgia happy.

Looks like VA's Oceana got a reprieve, which also surprised me.
