Has anyone looked at the Salon pictorial: Iraq: The Unseen War
I read the letters about it, but I'm afraid to look at the pictures.

2. They are
small pictures, so that helps...not pleasant...but not as gory as what we saw on TV at the supper hour from Vietnam. They've been toned down I think.

But if you're at all squeamish, don't go there. Honest.

3. Ok. Some of the letter writers said the pictures haunt them.
I don't think I can handle them right now.

So, they used to show stuff like this on the news during Vietnam?

4. I wouldn't be surprised
as some photos involve children...one a baby.

Yes, during Vietnam we got to see all manner of things...people getting shot in the head at close range, Buddhist priests on fire, a collection of ears for body counts and souvenirs...My Lai...corpses everywhere in every state of damage possible...a 'lovely' time for TV.

It did help to end the war though...there wasn't much that was sanitized about it.

A photo of a naked little girl running down the road with her back on fire from napalm became world famous.

5. Yes. I'm familiar with that photo. In fact, she actually showed up on
Oprah not too long ago.

Thanks for the advice. I probably won't look at them. I got similar advice from a friend about the beheading videos that circulated a while back.

6. They are bad
But I think we all need to see them. We cant keeps our heads in the sand about how ugly war is. The Iraq's can escape the horror of war... how can we?

7. I saw a pictorial of Vietnam photos in a Hustler magazine a kid brought to
school when I was in 6th grade.

That was enough for me, I think. I can learn from the past.

But I will keep them in mind for ammunition for any pro-war people I run across in the future.

8. I know
I guess when I say we, it sounds like we at DU, but the truth is most of us would not be here if we didnt know how ugly war can be. I guess by 'we' I mean those who support, or dont think much about the war.

9. Yeah. I know what you mean.
It's damn frustrating to me.

I was at a function full of soccer-mom types - well, kind of aged-out soccer moms - and I was amazed at how clueless they were about life in general. How naive they were about all kinds of things.

10. Why be afraid of what you are taking an active stance on stopping?
And be sure to share those pics in replies to Freeps who send you garbage rhetoric...send them one at a time

Remember...what is going on with our nation, what is going on in Iraq is not about you. It's about us as a nation. It's about a nation shattered by the PNAC maniacs.
