up until the very end everyone who read that and supporting Bush's war was getting defensive, trying to think of rebuttals, turing off the message in their head, or getting ready to contact a mod to have the message removed.

They thought the attack was aimed at Bush and they were ready to fight it tooth and nail. Then there is switch-a-roo at the end but the message is arguably valid about both men because they thought it applied to Bush. That has got to be uncomfortable for them even if they though the post was unfair when it was a anti-Bush.

Democrats don't support Saddam because he was a murderous, right-wing dictator so saying bad things about him doesn't hurt us but the freepers like Bush and even this subversive hint at a similarity must have been a little disturbing to all but the most clueless of them.

I get the main message which is Saddam did these bad things and caused the war Cindy is sort of protesting but in another way it says Bush has a few too many similarities with Saddam.

Actually, Saddam didn’t come to power in a rigged election. He succeeded President Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr as President in 1979 after cultivating enough influence and forcibly persuade Bakr to stand aside. And he consolidated his power through a series of party purges and brutal repression and also by casting himself as a wartime President during the Iran-Iraq war. Iraq did hold rigged elections a few times but Saddam’s power was already heavily consolidated before then.

Incidentally I know someone else who consolidated his power by casting himself as a war time President but we won’t mention names
