Question about intelligent design?
Do they also believe the earth is only a few thousand years old.Or have they given up on that?

4. I mean are
they still including it in what should be taught?Or have they tried to hide it until they actually get it included in text books?

3. My take....
Humans evolved from monkeys. It may have taken some millions of years nevertheless,I believe in evolution not the theory that "GOD" created earth in 6 days, made Adam from clay,Eve from Adam's rib,the Garden of Eden, ate from the Tree of Knowledge and then was kicked out the garden and sent them on their way to scratch out a living raising goats...

7. I understand I also believe
in evolution. But I can't have an argument with these freaks if I don't actually know what they believe in.

8. No, we evolved from the same root stock.
Humans did not evolve from apes.

13. Can't really argue with you.
Ever notice the variety of monkeys, apes, chimps, etc, but only one variety of human? (Not race) We killed the rest off.

9. Those are "young earthers"
The people who believe that a deity created the universe fall under a fairly large umbrella. The folks that believe in the inerrancy of the bible are the ones who believe the earth is a few thousand years old. There are ones who believe in evolution, but like to point out what they consider holes, or discrepancies in the theory (Don't ever forget what science means by "theory"!!!!) to say there must have been a guiding hand. There are folks here on DU, who believe in a deity that created the universe, but are smart enough to separate science from religion. The young earth folks take science, and twist it until its screams, they try to explain things like the red shift of the stars with pseudoscience, point out to creatures like the bombardier beetle as "evidence" that evolution cannot be the way the earth was created. In fact, for fun, google bombardier beetle and see what you get!

11. Here's where creationist "Thought" stands, these days:

http://www.answersingenesis.org/museum/walkthrough/

...And so-called "Intelligent Design" is just a subtle re-packaging of creationism, to gussy it up as "science" and try to shoehorn it into public schools. Read the bio of the heads of the "Discovery Institute". Right Wing Fundies all the way.

14. Intelligent design pushers stay away from Bible literalism
They generally accept that the Geologic, astronomical, fossil evidence all point to an Earth much older than the Bible indicates.

Plenty of ID pushers are fundies who personally belive all sorts of non-scientific crap, but they try not to let in show when they argue for ID in schools. It is just Creationisim by another name.

There's plenty of great ID debunking on the Web. Just do a search with "Intelligent Design" and "false" or "misleading" or even "bullshit"

15. My daughter had a good comment......
I followed a link the other day regarding this ID stuff, and it led to an article in which those who support ID are specifically disputing the Law of Gravity, spouting some nonsense about how can angels fly if there is gravity and how could Jesus rise from the dead, etc., etc.

My 12-year-old said, "Geez, shows how much they really think of Jesus. They don't even think he can overcome the Law of Gravity even though they say he's the son of God."

Guess you had to be there, but it cracked me up.....

16. There are "Young Earth Creationists" (6000 - 10,000 year old Earth)
"Old Earth Creationists" (10,000 and up) and "Intelligent Design" types who are being clever enough as to not admit how old the Earth is.

This whole thing will blow up on them if and when the Scientific community as a group stands up and says "We are NOT HAVING A DEBATE!! Only YOU folks are and you are the ones that don't understand basic Scientific principles"

Last night on Larry king there was a woman making the point that so-called "Intelligent Design Theorists" have no theory. None. They have yet to publish ONE SINGLE ARTICLE in a peer reviewed journal that has stood up to ANY scrutiny on the subject and they know it

17. They have all the answers, and questions are heresy
Why is that not clear?

They don't have to reveal the answers, because the big Sky Chief wouldn't love them more than you if they did.
