Anti-Sheehan caravan nothing but a bunch of "press availablities"
I was blog-hopping (if that is a term), and I bumped into this. Hopefully this wasn't mentioned here already. Anyway, this blog, Left I on the News talks about this Move America Forward outfit and points out:

Deborah Johns has already been the subject of thousands of news articles despite not having left Sacramento until yesterday on her "You Don't Speak For Me, Cindy" tour. Just as a side note, Johns is not a "Gold Star Mother"; her son is alive and well, about to start his third tour of duty in Iraq. Of course that doesn't invalidate her opposition to the war, but it is worth noting, especially as most coverage of her fails to take note of this fact.

The "caravan" which Johns is leading to Crawford is a fake and a fraud. Check out the schedule for the tour - it's basically a series of "press availabilities" in cities between Sacramento and Crawford, with little or nothing to do with actual public support.

And sure enough check out there scheduled stops:

What a lame ass fake opposition. These people are nothing but a braindead bunch of contrarians looking just to be Anti-Cindy Sheehan. How can people be so Pro-Death so as to not understand that they look like fools supporting a crime such as this war?

2. press availabilities??? Nope, it's a confirmed press junket. It's all
designed for MAXIMUM media exposure. Remember, this is being organized and fronted by the same dirty g.o.p. P.R. firm that had a huge hand in the swift boat liars. Once again, instead of addressing the issues, they're gonna try and dress the entire gaudy display in red, white and blue bunting and tie it all up with yellow ribbons.

And you know, I just got to wonder. Is Ms. Johns doing this because of her convictions, or is she profiting in some way that has yet to surface? Dig deep folks. Let's find out what's REALLY behind this little p.r. extravaganza.

8. I see what you mean about the terminology, but the point is...
that the tour is a schedule of press events for them to get their message out. They want people to believe that this is a group of people that are genuinely doing this such as how those who are supporting Cindy Sheehan. These other people are just protesting the protest, not supporting an issue. Like something I heard Jerry Springer say today - these people are just trying to save face. The whole lot of 'em. No one can honestly support this war. It is the team sport mentality. Their party will be always right no matter what.

12. There is a tremendous difference. Cindy Sheehan started as a one woman,
almost spontaneous protest. Through the power and the glory of the Internets, the word passed from person to person. I can remember when Cindy first went to Crawford. One of the persons on DU, I can't remember who, arranged for some Porti-Potties. Someone else contracted to have a load of water sent. The point is this IS a grass-roots effort. Cindy didn't have a huge media machine or faithful retainers ready to take to the airwaves to parrot the party line or assassinate someone's character. This is the beginning of a people's revolution. And it is oh-so-fitting that some of the same slime dog motherfuckers that got the snot slapped out of them at Watergate are gonna be around to watch bush2*: the payoff come crashing down around their feet. They've got the media, they've got the money, they've got the petro/industrial complex on their side. We've got a Mom who refuses to take shit any longer.

6. This needs to be spread out to the news organizations who
will no doubt NOT do their due dillagence research. They will participate in the complicity unless called on it -and then still may.

10. They may be created and funded by a repub PR firm
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 09:13 PM by txindy
I found this just now on the Hoffmania blog in the comments, not in the main blog, itself. There's no verification, so I don't know how true it is. It certainly sounds quite d*mning.

When the MAF (Move America forward) website first went up this take a look at who is was registered to:

The .com address was first registered using this
information:

Registrant:
Russo Marsh & Rogers
770 L Street, #950
Sacramento, CA 95814
US

That's right, this genuine act of patriotism is
brought to you by the Republican public
relations firm Russo Marsh and Rogers.
The Move America Forward organization isn't
just based in the Bay Area, it's based in the
same offices as the Russo PR firm. Same
receptionist answers calls for both organizations.
Website was registered to the firm until
they figured out that it wouldn't look good
if people knew that a PR firm was behind this
"patriotic grassroots activist group".

The President muffs it big time when he refuses to
meet with the mother of a dead American soldier
because he's ˜too busy" on his vacation
and then Republicans follow that up by going and
getting this PR firm to sponsor a caravan to
denounce her.

Aside from bad politics that's just disgustingly
loathsome behavior."
