Lurking on a Military wives board and I was shocked!
Ok - first of all I think it sucks that I did this - I even had to register as one of them and lied that I had a hubby in the military. Karma gunna bend me over the ass for that one...Anyways, I'm convinced that most of the millitary is not all rah rah for this crap and I went "covert" to see what I could see. I was shocked, SHOCKED I tell ya. I'd say 98% of the posters were W hating like you wouldn't believe. Here's a few snippets from these grand dames - I LOVE these gals!!!!

Re...Cindy Sheehan

"If my husband died, I would want some answers too. and not from some public address where he repeats himself and avoids a real explanation. In person. I dont blame her. If this is helping her or her process in grieving the loss of her son, let her grieve!"

"I think she's doing a great thing. Bush needs to wake up and realize that there are people left behind by these deaths in Iraq. He needs to look at these mothers, wives, children, shit, even the buddies of the dead troops, and NOT when we're standing there in uniform. He needs to realize that HE killed these troops. No he did not directly inflict death upon them, but he sent them to die, and that's just as bad."

"The fact that anyone thinks this mother is wrong in any way for what she's doing just amazes me. This isn't even as inflamatory as when me and my buddies protested at one of Bush's rallies by wearing shirts with our buddy's pic and the caption "KILLED BY GEORGE W. BUSH", and we only got local media coverage for that...... the things people will freak out about....."

"I hope he does meet with her. Of course he probably won't and he'll just look like an ass."

"Oh, and I want an explanation just as much without my husband dying.
Bush doesn't realize, I mean honestly, how much these conflicts affect families. Or being specific, how much it affected me becaue I can only speak for myself. Its not just him, no.... I realize the presidency is not just one person. I still think he has a lot of answers that he would never provide for even those who are most affected by the aftermath of this war."

"We just need to get someone in there with some balls...Bush appeared to have them at first, then he tucked his tail between his legs and covered them up like a damn dog...He has made himself look like an ass, and I will not argue that..."

"First Bush term I voted for Nader. If I hadn't I would have voted for Bush. Ironically enough, I went from being middle of the road to so freaking liberal my head might explode. The "great uniter" has turned me so far against the Republican Party I would have voted for Satan last term over Bush."

Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 10:22 PM by txindy
Invite them to DU. Tell them that there are other military wives and family members here. That's very true.

Adding: If you post at all, I mean. Continue to lurk, if you prefer, but one option is the statement above. It says nothing about you, but does directly reference the reason behind their board: military families.

Let them know how much we love them.

These people are dumber than dirt - I almost get sadistical pleasure when Dumbya is on TV at the bar and not one of them has anything to say as they think about how there is nothing to look forward to in the future except for filling the gas tank in their gas guzzling SUV's and pickups... :D

even with guests (parents) of soldiers killed in Iraq - O'Reilly's show I caught when he had the father & step-mother of Erik Kesterson on, following O'Reilly's confrontation with Kesterson's mother - that people are reluctant to really 'attack' Cindy Sheehan. They totally emphathize but disagree with her course. This couple for instance even said they weren't angry at the ex-wife - she had lost her son as well.

36. ok here are more posts
but I don't think I can do this much more -

"If my husband were to die over there and I was doing what cindy's doing, I think he'd be really proud of me. Cindy is so brave. I really admire her."

"I totally know what you are saying Anna...I think this would all be easier to chew on it President Bush appeared to be even TRYING to put together a plan, but that isn't the case...I also agree with Sara, that there is complete dishonesty going on right now in the White House...Something needs to happen, and while it may not be pulling out and leaving everyone high and dry over there, there needs to be some sort of plan other than just "Staying The Course..."

"My guess is that we're going to be dealing with this Stay the Course bullshit till we get someone in the white house who has a fully functional brain."

"Yeah, I can definately see how he would need to do that. John's lucky in that way, I suppose. He can fix shit and hate the president and the mission all he wants. As long as the stuff gets fixed he's good."

"Here's a vivid example of why Bush owes it to these families: When my buddy was murdered on the campus of Baghdad University while guarding foreign diplomats, everyone in our part of Florida was completely outraged because it was Bush's policy of wanting to make it look like that place wasn't part of a war zone, that was why he was ordered not to wear a Kevlar and flack vest, and that gunman was able to approach him, shoot him in the back of the head, and disappear in the crowd before anyone could find him. BUSH KILLED MY BUDDY! BUSH MADE THE POLICY THAT HE COULDN'T PROTECT HIMSELF! But Bush would not meet with his parents. The fact that he was active in our county's Young Democrats association, and that his father is a Democrat politician may have something to do with the fact that his death was completely ignored by anyone connected with Bush, and I think that's fucked up."

It's a great fallacy that everyone in the military is republican and loves bush. There may be a few in the officer's corp that fit that description, but overall, my experience in the military showed it was about 50%-50%, pretty much like voters in the U.S.

39. I'm not surprised
I spent 10 years in the Navy a knew quite a few sailor's wives. A lot of them were really liberal and more so the longer their husbands had served. Putting up with military bullshit when you are not even a GI yourself can do that to you I guess. By no means does this describe all of them but I was always aware of deep pockets of progressive politics within military families. And certainly now since these women are having to deal with their husbands being used as cannon fodder for a bunch of greedy oil-grubbing bastards it's going to come to the fore.

42. Interesting....
I think she has the right to do it but I find it very sad that she is hurting and tearing apart the rest of her family that lives. Her and her husband are divorcing over it and her children plead for her to stop and return home.

Um....sweetie, they're not divorcing because she's in Crawford (unlike how the media is trying to portray it!). They're divorcing because of the stress and strain initially CAUSED BY THE DEATH OF THEIR SON!!!

I can't say what I would ever do in her situation and I don't think that any of us could say what we would do if we lost a child.

Mmmmm...divorcing, maybe?

59. As a military wife
you could of just asked me and others on this board.. We would of told ya with out the covert ops. =) But I guess it's always good to have it confirmed.

My husband is Navy, but his job puts him directly on the field. He's a combat camera guy/ journalist. We've looked down the barrel of a possible deployment to Iraq a few times in the last 2 years.
I can tell you, every wife, every husband, every military spouse has at some point had the talk. THE Talk, What we will or plan to tell our children should their mother or father die in Iraq or become disabled.

Military families are aware of what sacrifice is. What it means to be separated from a loved one. To live and function as a single parent. To put a smile on our faces, and brave the world for our kids when all we want is to be held ourselves. We've all paced the floor at 1 am in the morning because we haven't heard from our loved ones in a few days. We understand that sacrifice isn't just a term one throws around, or stands on podiums announcing. It's an act, it's a loss, an honor? It's an "honor" we'd all trade, for just one more hour with the person we lost.

We understand that chicken hawks love to throw the term duty and honor and pride around. We understand they'd drape themselves with a flag they have no right to. We know freedom isn't free. We also know that items that save our loved ones lives, like vests and up armored Humvee are not only not free but with held! It takes more then a yellow ribbon or a pretty (blundered) speech. We've been used as their backdrops.

If our loved ones come back from Iraq, we are spared the talk with our children for 6 months or another year. We are not spared the vacant hallow eyes, thrashing beside us, the depression and fatigue of our loved one. We see, we see the price of war every day and every night. We hear our loved ones tales, we know the truth.

I just wanted them to know.. (rethugs), we've been paying attention. More are waking up, what will you do when the game is up? When we are no longer your media crutch or backdrop, who will you use then? We've been labeled traitor for going to war and DISAGREEING with the insanity! Who is spitting on the memory or service of our men and women? Little hint: "pro war chicken hawks"

Sorry for the rant, lol I got carried away expressing my feelings on the topic. It's not often that I get a soap box to sound off on.

60. Mil wife - I don't know how you do it...
I just don't know...just the fact that you have to live with some potential impending doom and being at the mercy of these chickenhawks is a sacrifice in itself. God, Yahweh, Emmanuel, whatever you believe in, BLESS YOU. Bless you 1000 times.
