Talking points : The pro-war MINORITY |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 10:37 AM by iconoclastNYC
Any who has access to the media needs to point out that people who support this war are the minority.
65% oppose this war
35% refuse to process the facts:
This war was illegal This war was based on lies American credibility is destroyed They did not greet us as liberators The oil revenue is not paying for the war (which will cost 1 trillion) There were no WMDs Theocracy is not FREEDOM Women will have less rights than they did under the previous regime This war is a recruiting godsend for Al Qaeda Quality of life for the Iraqis is worse since the war War profiteering is unprecedented Nearly 25,000 dead innocent Iraqis, nearly 2000 dead G.Is, thousands of amputees and injured and psychologically damaged.
Why won't the anti-war minority tell us?
What's the nobel cause?

All i'm saying is we need to keep it simple.
There is no way you can't win an argument with a war supporter if you keep to these points and don't take thier bait.

it is a total reflection of bush's "leadership" and the sad mental state of his base.

6. Look into that 25k dead innocent Iraqis number |
|
that's the iraqbodycount.net gives, and they tend to seriously minimize the number in my opinion. I had heard credible figures that were over 100k in the first year alone. Then, you have to add the huge and growing number of casualities caused by bombers that would not have occured BUT FOR the US invasion and occupation. They kill several dozen a day, so that figure has to be many tens of thousands alone, and it's not included by iraqbodycount (if that's where you're getting your 25k figure).

8. It may well be higher but you don't want the |
|
debate to become an argument about the 25,000 or 100,000. To most pro-war people 75,000 Iraqis doesn't mean much (which is sad)
The thing is you want to keep to your core points and not get off on some tangent. Repubs seize any opportunity to get you off your facts and on to something they can get you all pissed off about.
So citing a controversal death count would be a mistake.

and have had the same experience with infinite digressions, but I have a reservation. I really don't like the idea that pro-war conservatives are going to define the history and legacy of this war by what they will and will not accept -- that's the problem in the first place! These are people who do not respond to rationality -- I tried all that with them BEFORE the war -- so watering down the collateral damage figures may leave the forces of imperialism off the hook for several hundred thousand deaths merely as the result of conservative obtuseness.
I guess it depends on the context. If you were on TV debating, I guess the more conservative figure would be better. But in day to day discourse, I want to imprint a more honest figure onto the American consciousness.

But that just meant people didn't want a unilateral invasion.
I think the real story now is that most people think the war was a mistake, not worth it. Thats what we can seize on to marganalize the PRO-WAR MINORITY.
Excellent graphic you have there.
