OK, Mississippi has the most liberal youth, of all red states!
That's right the 18-35 year olds in MS voted for Kerry 63 to 37 precent!

So next time you feel like bashing a southern state, pick a different one than MS, cause we rock!

here is a link:
http://www.alternet.org/story/24223/

Three years ago, Mississippi's Young Democrat group only existed on paper. Today it has 64 organized chapters in high schools, colleges and counties across the state. The state's young voters led the South, and much of the nation, in the percentage that voted for Kerry (63 percent) over Bush (37 percent). "We're a new generation of young voters that identifies ourselves as national Democrats, not southern Democrats," says Hooks.

not to move elsewhere so you can permanently turn Miss. blue?

what you what are paper ballots. If not, may as well make paper airplanes out of them

24. I've read that the print from Diebold printers is too tiny for a voter to
read.

26. If it is too tiny to read then I have hundreds of people willing to sue
the state over it.

No one likes paperless voting.

I used to go and stay there and loved it (when I was young and could tolerate the heat). Also have friends that live in Starkville, all national Dems. Go Miss.!!

9. That is beautiful
I am so happy to hear that Melody, wouldn't it be wonderful if the south became enlightened...it takes education and more education.
Leave it to the young to know the difference, that is great!

So sad seeing people being had, forever voting against their own interest.

18. well...
They were turned Blue by the Civil War fought against the Republicans. Then, they slowly turned Red because the Democrats actually stood up for minorities civil rights...back when Dems had a spine, anyway. So, maybe if you get the Republicans to pass an affirmative action or gay rights bill, they might come back.

That's a sad way of putting it but not far from the truth.

The youth, though, I think, are reacting to what they have seen and grown up with. Our generation is much less racist than our parents, so identifying with national dems is not so anathemic as is might be for older generations.

17. I'm just so proud
Kick for all MS DUers!

Also Ole Miss slipped another 8 notches in the most conservative campuses in the country.

2 years ago we were number 7, last year number 10, this year we were number 18.

I take full credit by the way ;)

I went to Oxford last summer and although I saw quite a few frat boy Bushbots, I also saw quite a few Kerry stickers. Hopefully this will mean Mississippi will be blue before long.

There is an old and well-tried suspicion of the government in the south.
Once it sets fire, there's no putting it down.

23. I'll vouch for the youths of Mississippi
I met these great young Mississippians at the New Orleans Jazz Fest this past spring. They were truly appalled with the GOP, the Bush Crime Family, f***ing Trent Lott(!) and couldn't express their outrage enough! A wonderfully pleasant surprise if there ever was one - it did my heart good. :-)

25. Their are so many cool people in MS, we have long been a haven for artists
MS has really been opening up in the last 35 years, many people that visit are happily surprized.

We had some guys visiting from Amsterdam at our Cindy Sheehan vigil, they were so hapy to see Americans protesting. They said Oxford was their favorite southern city yet.

I think that at the moment we still have places where you can drive for over an hour and see nothing but trees, it may be gone soon but for the meanwhile it is still beautiful here.

I hate the confederate flag and even I felt ill voting for the corporate one.

31. I didn't mean to
be a bummer on your happy post. I apologize. Good to see young people wising up there!

Actually I lived in Oxford for a year. Made more friends in that year than anyplace else in any year of my life. Many were affiliated with the university where I worked for a few months. A very prominent Mississippian was a good friend of mine. Very fond memories! Unfortunately, I'm sure that not all of Mississippi is like Oxford.

"Come on in" is one of the six select CD's that's always in my car. He' is god! as far as I'm concerned.

Does he play regularly in Oxford? Which clubs. I'm ready to come on down as part of my Delta blues tour.

Damn
