Journal receives hate mail over fetal pain article
Abortion opponents sending 'horrible, vindictive' messages to editor

excerpt:

Updated: 2:49 p.m. ET Aug. 25, 2005
CHICAGO - The editor of a medical journal that published an article this week saying fetuses likely don’t feel pain until late in pregnancy said Thursday she has received dozens of angry e-mails from abortion opponents. Dr. Catherine DeAngelis, editor in chief of The Journal of the American Medical Association, said she had to take a walk around the block after receiving dozens of “horrible, vindictive” messages.

Heretics And Heresies (1874)
Robert G. Ingersoll

http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/robert_ingersoll/heretics_and_hericies.html

excerpt:

Give any orthodox church the power, and to-day they would punish heresy with whip, and chain, and fire. As long as a church deems a certain belief essential to salvation, just so long it will kill and burn if it has the power. Why should the church pity a man whom her God hates? Why should she show mercy to a kind and noble heretic whom her God will burn in eternal fire? Why should a Christian be better than his God? It is impossible for the imagination to conceive of a greater atrocity than has been perpetrated by the church. Every nerve in the human body capable of pain has been sought out and touched.

Let it be remembered that all churches have persecuted heretics to the fullest extent of their power. Toleration has increased only when and where the power of the church has diminished. From Augustine until now the spirit of the Christians has remained the same. There has been the same intolerance, the same undying hatred of all who think for themselves, and the same determination to crush out of the human brain all knowledge inconsistent with an ignorant creed.

According to the theologians, God, the Father of us all, wrote a letter to his children. The children have always differed somewhat as to the meaning of this letter. In consequence of these honest differences, these brothers began to cut out each other's hearts. In every land, where this letter from God has been read, the children to whom and for whom it was written have been filled with hatred and malice. They have imprisoned and murdered each other, and the wives and children of each other. In the name of God every possible crime has been committed, every conceivable outrage has been perpetrated. Brave men, tender and loving women, beautiful girls, and prattling babes have been exterminated in the name of Jesus Christ. For more than fifty generations the church has carried the black flag. Her vengeance has been measured only by her power. During all these years of infamy no heretic has ever been forgiven. With the heart of a fiend she has hated; with the clutch of avarice she has grasped; with the jaws of a dragon she has devoured; pitiless as famine, merciless as fire, with the conscience of a serpent: such is the history of the Church of God.

3. And these people think they're christian, huh?
The amount of hate and anger they spew is incredible. Religion has been the basis for more human suffering than almost anything else on the planet except greed - and religion has a good part in that too.

4. The Dominionist Christians (aggressive far-right) believe Greed is Good.
The Dominionist movement has a teaching that wealth is a sign of God's blessing and poverty is a punishment from God for living a sinful and undisciplined life.

On these grounds, they support tax breaks for the ultra-rich and they want to eliminate social programs for the needy - all according to their view of Christianity.

Fundamentalist Radical Clerics such as Falwell, Dobson, and Robertson are not merely medieval throwbacks or misguided religious hacks. They are part of a well organized subversionary movement known as "Dominionism". Dominionism constitutes a serious threat to American Democracy. These Radical Clerics have developed and are executing a detailed plan to gradually replace the free, secular democratic society of the United States with a Theocracy.

These articles are well worth reading. They explain a whole lot:

5. What I don't see is outrage...
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 09:37 PM by madeline_con
on a grand scale, as there should be.

These people are out fo their friggin minds, and must be stoped.

I have nothing against true Christians, or anyone of faith who wishes to believe in God, or whomever, or whatever makes them fee life's worht living, etc.

It's these lunatic, psychotic hate mongers who'd have us all return to witch burnings and torture rakcs for "sinning" who MUST be stopped ASAP.

EDIT: you see the mistakes, and are most likely old enough to handle it and move on...

6. Katherine Yurica is a committed Christian...she is outraged
both because her country is in danger from these lunatics AND because her faith has been hijacked by them.

"God is Love and Other Fundamentals the Fundamentalists Have Forgotten" which goes through the whole Bible and proves the right wing maniacs wrong at every turn. But finding a publisher isn't easy; he's had 10 rejections so far.

11. Try Lightening Source - Very Reasonable, Quality Print-on-Demand Publisher
Lightening Source is a subsidiary of Ingram Industries Inc. They were originally a print-on-demand operation called Lightning Print Inc. which was founded in 1997 as part of Ingram Book Group.

They are HUGE, but they are niched for the small publisher. The books are printed as they are ordered. No giant first run fees, no remainders.

They published Katherine Yurica's "Bloodguilty Churches" and the quality is excellent, the price is very reasonable, and the book is marketed thru Amazon.com.

9. Maybe
this should wake up the many doctors out there that vote for Bush and republicans just because they make a lot of money.

Maybe this should show them who their allies are and what kinda freaks they've been emboldening.

10. That's nothing as a stem cell lobbyist
I have been spat at, been called an embryo farmer, been called a toddler killer and been kicked out of two churchers. Now bare in mind that i need a cane or a walker on most days to get around. One of these right to lifers actually said I deserve parkinsons because I want to kill babies. Yet at the same time they dont care about the unborn children in iraq.
