Protesters, tempers growing in Crawford

Cox News Service

CRAWFORD, Texas — Peace mom Cindy Sheehan on Thursday responded to critics who have said her calls to end the Iraq war are beyond the mainstream and don't represent the majority of military families.

....

Kristinn Taylor, spokesman for FreeRepublic.com, a conservative Web site helping coordinate some of the weekend's events, said Sheehan's protest has conjured up still-raw emotions from the Vietnam War era but with a difference.

....

Even without more "rabble rousers" — as some Crawford residents tend to call demonstrators — tempers were starting to flare Thursday, including at Camp Casey II.

Marine Lance Cpl. Jeff Key picked up a cameraman who refused to step away from a makeshift memorial. The cameraman had been filming Sheehan as she kneeled before her son's boots and a memorial marker bearing her son's name.

1. I'm sure the editor meant to say...
"Protests, tempers growing in Crawford"

Or is it true that things in Texas get BIG?

3. This is the kind of crap that
Bush was hoping for -- it takes the focus off of the real issue, which is why are we in this war, what are the soldiers dying for, & why won't he answer the questions. I hope everyone can be strong & turn the other cheek to try to keep things on track. This is just another typical Rove/Bush maneuver, and media maneuver -- distraction. :(

7. Yeah, did you see the other day where he dragged out a
Mom with four kids in Iraq, a husband and another kid who just came back, and quoted her as saying if one of them bites the bullet she knows that is 'what they wanted???' Let's hope she never has to test that idiotic statement.

Battle of the Servicemember Moms...that's trash TV for ya.

9. Bush said some similar
crap to a mother with sons in Iraq recently -- said something like if they die, at least they will die doing what they believe in & they would have been proud to die that way, or something like that... basically 'if your kid dies for me to make a buck...' Who in their right mind would tell a mother anything like that!! And who is he to presume to know if they would have been proud to die for his war?? And he's got balls to even comment on what any soldier feels like in war when he was too scared to go when his time came!!!! I would be highly offended if I were the mother of a soldier in Iraq, the mother of a soldier killed in action, a soldier currently over there, or a war veteran -- hell, I'm offended now & I'm none of those things.

4. WTF?
Freeper says the following:
"This time, (supporters of the war are) speaking out because they don't want to see happen to their sons and daughters what happened to the people in their generation who served in the military," Taylor said.

I say:
"This time, (those against the war are) speaking out because they don't want to see happen to their sons and daughters what happened to the people in their generation who served in the military," Taylor said.

12. LOL! AS IF that Free Republic ass *Kristinn* served in any war!
His idea of "going to war" must be getting into a cat fight with another log cabin republican over Jeff Gannon's honor.

5. some weird terminology in that article...
"Many were caught unaware of a request that asked the media to avoid stepping in and around the makeshift memorial, which resembles a slice of the Arlington National Cemetery with neat rows of about 300 crucifixes."

crucifixes?????

and I'm totally ignoring the quotes from someone from freerepublic. Did anyone else find this article totally bizarre?

Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 09:25 AM by ET Awful
for "tempers growing" is a Marine Lance Corporal who stands with Cindy, or at the very least is defending the memorial placed at Camp Casey from being trampled?

Hmmmm, kind of puts a different spin on things eh?

10. He was working for Faux News
So the lie isn't much of a surprise. Neither is the provocation from the cameraman.

16. Provocateurs/Spoilers? it was only a matter of time, it's the Rove machine
at work again, we get too powerful?, they bring in the spoilers, then they bring in the ones pretending to support Cindy.

Must remain alert to their bullshit tactics otherwise they win!
