Bush Approval Rating Continues to Drop
Current 40% approval is lowest of administration to date

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup Poll reflects further erosion in President George W. Bush's job approval rating, continuing the slow but steady decline evident throughout the year so far. The poll -- conducted Aug. 22-25 -- puts Bush's job approval rating at 40% and his disapproval rating at 56%. Both are the most negative ratings of the Bush administration. Bush's previous low point in approval was 44% (July 25-28, 2005) and his previous high point in disapproval was 53% (June 24-26, 2005).

The floodgates have opened. I didn't expect this on Gallup. I'd have to say the ARG poll was probably spot on and NOT an outlier considering Gallup's historical pro-Bush bias.

I predicted (wrongly) that Gallup would not show a drop, or even a minor bump up for Chimpy. I'm flabbergasted about this.

I wonder if CNN will trumpet these results the same way they do good polls for Chimpy? These data are a big story, they're DISASTROUS!!

9. I'm surprised, too. But war does funny things.
Methinks a lot of conservatives are embarrassed that he won't even meet with a Gold Star mother, and they're ashamed at the treatement she's been getting at the hands of his minions.

And the DSM is slowly registering.

And people are waking up to the fact that he clearly is living in a fantasy world of his own creation.

And Treason-Gate...

Note how fewer of the respondents identified themselves as Republican this time (only 29%).

18. I think we can thank Cindy
for a huge portion of the continued decline. I don't think the DSM is a huge force (yet, though it should be), nor is Treason-gate at the moment. Those of us who pay attention, yes we know all about them. The great unwashed... I doubt it. Most people dont pay that close an attention, and let's face it the media isnt doing their job of broadcasting it.

I think that the public as a whole is simply tired of seeing the casualty numbers increasing, in an unending war with no timetable for withdrawal. With it being so miserable, people dont like the fact there is no end to the war in sight. Thank Cindy for calling attention and getting real publicity for the anti-war sentiment in this country that til now has been silenced and bullied. She's made it possible now for more people to openly question the thief in chief (even if he won't let them in).

7. I'm surprised 40% of Americans actually like the f*cker
Seriously, what kind of drugs are they on? Or do they not want to admit they were wrong and just keep telling themselves he is still a good leader?

8. I heard there is a certain percentage, that will stick with him no matter
what he does... I imagine it's a significant part of the 40%.

12. The "30-percenters". They'll never abandon him. He's a "man of God".

Unless there's a bandwagon effect, where it gets so bad it's embarrassing for even them to support him in THEIR circles, AND a suitable alternative (somebody like McCain that they can say is a conservative "maverick").

13. Yep.
If they caught Dumbya screwing a Golden Retriever on the WH lawn, they'd call for investing in puppy mills and viagra.

14. If Gallup has him at 40%...
...what are the odds that he is really anything over 35%. You subtract the braindead30 and we only have 5% left to convert.
