Who is the WP's "administration official" whistleblower?
i've been revisiting news stories of the treasongate scandal, and i've noticed that no one (in print, on tv, or here at DU) is talking about the washington post's 'administration official' who claims that two white house officials contacted at least six reporters.

who in the freak monkey administration has the integrity to blow the whistle?

if i missed any DU discussion concerning the possible identity of the whistleblower, please let me know.

here's the story from usatoday, which quotes the WP:
The Washington Post quoted an administration official Sunday as saying two White House officials phoned at least six journalists and disclosed the name and occupation of Wilson's wife. Novak printed the name July 14 and said Wilson, a critic of Bush policy on Iraq, had been sent by the CIA to Africa after his wife suggested it.

1. Karl Rove
He knows his role is expendable. aWol will look 'in charge' by releasing him. The CIA to Justice request in an everyday occurence.
Poppy has decided to move rOve out and orchestrated this series of events to have the aWol puppet look 'in charge'.

9. I doubt your premise
Like Karen Hughes, Rove is the puppetmaster next
to Cheney. He isn't going anywhere unless to move
behind the Re-Selection scenes.

2. Tenet
I think the CIA is fighting back, and fighting back hard.

4. Is Tenet accurately described as a "senior Administration official?"
The notion of Tenet as the informant makes a lot of inherent sense, but I understand that terms such as "senior Administration official" have very specific meanings, and would be used with some precision in a case like this.

5. According to Josh Marshall and other Washington insiders...
... "Senior Administration Official" is code for Cabinet Member.

That's why so many fingers are pointing in Tenet's direction.

6. I Know Tenet's a Bush Loyalist,
but would the head of CIA out one of his own people? If so, he's really out of step with the troops.

It's got to be someone closer to the White House without another iron in the fire. Rove, Card, or someone they commissioned. Or maybe even Cheney -- he seems to be in charge of brilliant f'ups the last few years.

10. You're missing it...
We're talking about who reported that the leak had been done by 2 WH officials, not who outed Plame.

7. it seems to me
that at least one person in the inner circle of hell known as the bush administration decided that the two leakers needed to be outed. i want to know who it is.

if it's tenet, then the freak monkey and his pals are in for a real fight to the political death. but, how would tenet know who's leaking to 6 reporters?

8. I've been wondering the same thing.
Thanks for asking the question.

Maybe I dreamed it, but I could swear I read somewhere a suspicion that it was Powell. The theory was that he wanted to oust Cheney...meaning he knows Cheney is behind the leak.

Made some sense to me.

11. I think this was already established as being Tenet
but I can't remember where I saw this. Wilson, himself, keeps stressing the point that the CIA chain of command goes directly to the WH. So, it would make sense that Tenet is "leaking" to the press now especially since he is the one who initiated the inquiry.

Also, for those thinking this will go away - think about this. If this does manage to go away some how - what do you think is going to happen to George Tenet now?

As far as I'm concerned, Tenet is in this thing for his life. I don't see him letting this one just die.

13. I vote for Powell.
He's been toe-ing the line for a while now, but in my opinion, reluctantly. This muight have pushed him over the edge, and this is his way of "giving something back", if you will. After all, these are HIS people, he's in charge of the State Department.

14. Yep, I said before. . .
That's the REAL mystery man/woman. I know CW says it's a Cabinet person (i.e., Tenet) but I'm thinking it's someone more "political" vs "policy" who hates Rove's guts and has been around long enough to know the full implications of what the leak meant. If you accept that, my money's on Mary Matalin. Even though she officially resigned awhile ago, I always wondered why, considering her ambition. And she HAS retained links with 'em - basically becoming part-time. And, being in Cheney's office, she certainly saw enough. Yeah, she's a mouthpiece, but I've never thought she was 'dirty' and can easily see her being appalled by all this.
