Bush hosts press for dinner
8/26/2005 12:10 PM
By: Associated Press

CRAWFORD -- President Bush played host to the White House press corps at a private off-the-record dinner at his ranch on Thursday.

The casual affair of fried catfish, potato salad, coleslaw, homemade cheese and chocolate-chip cookies followed a tradition at the ranch. The president and his wife, Laura, have the news media covering his annual August vacation out to their ranch in Central Texas as a sort of thank-you.

The event was not held last year because of the busy campaign season. The invitations to the reporters were issued on the condition that they not discuss conversations at the event.

5. How very gracious of them -
"The invitations to the reporters were issued on the condition that they not discuss conversations at the event."

If only one of them had the balls to write a tell all.

7. Bush had nothing to worry about, those reporters don't "report" anything
that even resembles the truth about Bush.

All we heard last year was :This very popular president" and that he "Can't be beat on the terror issue."

LIARS and whores.

9. You have got to be kidding me. They held a private, "off-the-record"
meeting or um *dinner* with the press and we the people are not allowed to know what the eff happened? That is bullshit.

They clearly are trying to get them to cover things the way they want them covered.

This makes my blood boil and we need to contact each and every writer, newspaper, tv network who attended.

11. Yuck. Homemade Cheese and Chocolate-Chip cookies sound disgusting.
Whoever decided to ruin perfectly good chocolate chip cookies with cheese should be shot.

13. This is all too cozy for words
especially coming on the heels of last week's bike ride. To quote Sheridan Whiteside, " I may vomit!" * Actually, looking at the menu I might anyway. The whole meal appears to be mostly composed of white food. The possible exception is the cole slaw if it is the vinegar variety and not the creamy kind. This is probably the least healthy menu I have seen this week. And someone please tell me where the homemade cheese fits in. Usually, when I have seen homemade mozarrella it is in a salad with tomatoes and thyme. If the press corps didn't spend so much ink/time putting Bush in a favorable light, I would think this meal was an attempt to kill them off slowly due to heart failure from clogged arteries.
