Just Coming Over AP Wire
Sunni's turned down the constitution and one Iraqi leader says this is the end of the road.

Course - that may change in ten minutes.

9. It is going to go to the Iraqi people for an up or down vote on it.
No agreement and now the people will decide. It doesn't sound real good.

10. This constitution is irrelevant
It wouldn't be legitimate in any sense. we're trying to impose a constitution on Iraq the same way we imposed one on Japan, but the difference is that Japan was utterly defeated. There's a lot of fight left in them Iraqis.

Anyway, what difference would it make--oh, yeah, I forget, it gives them an excuse to stay there longer. :banghead:

11. Iraqi Constitution Draft to Be Presented
http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-iraq-charter-timetable,0,4896200.story?coll=sns-ap-nationworld-headlines

August 26, 2005, 5:36 PM EDT

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The chairman of Iraq's constitution committee said the new draft will be sent to parliament either Saturday or Sunday.

Sheik Humam Hammoudi, a Shiite, said the timing would depend on when members of the National Assembly could be summoned to Baghdad. Friday and Saturday are the Iraqi weekend.

"There has been an agreement on the differences including the federalism issue," Hammoudi said. "This will give guarantees for the Sunnis."

Sunni negotiators said they did not accept the revised document, and one of them, Saleh al-Mutlaq, called on Iraqis to reject the document in the Oct. 15 referendum.

However, Hammoudi's comments indicated that the Shiites and Kurds had decided to end the negotiating with the Sunnis and refer the document to parliament, where the two communities have an overwhelming majority.
