Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 05:13 PM by in_cog_ni_to
they do do that sometimes IF it's a current event that has a lot of interest. From what I have read in their paper, it is. I know it's long because I'm responding to 2 letters. I didn't respond to the 3rd letter from yesterday. Is it OK? Be gentle. ;)

This is in response to all the anti-Cindy Sheehan Letters to the Editor I have read the last 2 days. To Mr. Montgomery who thinks Casey gave his life for a cause that he believed to be right. No, he didn't believe the cause to be right. Aug.1, 2005, Cindy Sheehan said, "He didn't want to go. He felt the war was wrong and did not support George Bush, but he felt it was his duty to go."

He gave his life because his Commander-in-Chief sent him to Iraq on a pack of lies, as was proven by The Downing Street Minutes Memo. Casey didn't support Bush's war. He went because he was ordered to and because his unit depended on him. How anyone can chastise a mother who gave her son for their war, is beyond the realm of reasonable. Cindy Sheehan has earned the right to say anything she darn well pleases. She lost her son. Have you? Better yet, if you support the Iraq cause, why are you here? Why haven't you enlisted and gone to serve that "cause" you seems to support?

Then, I read Mr. Schimmel's LTTE who included 4 Cindy Sheehan quotes and made derogatory remarks about her being a "grieving mother and a pathetic weeping figure." I'm still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor! That lady lost her son! Casey Sheehan is DEAD. Have you lost a child to this war? If not, then you have no right to question her feelings and motives. Cindy Sheehan is hardly a "pawn" of the PRO-PEACE movement. I would say just the opposite is true! She's using them to get her message to the man who would be king, George Bush. As for the Cindy Sheehan quotes you included in your letter....shall we throw stones?

Dick Cheney on the Senate floor June, 2004....To Senator Patrick Leahy, "Go Fuck Yourself."

George Bush and Dick Cheney at a Labor Day Parade in Naperville, IL. George Bush says to Cheney, "That's Adam Clymer---Major League Asshole." Cheney replies, "Yeah, big time." They didn't know a microphone was only inches away.

Time Magazine reported in March, 2002, a full year before the invasion of Iraq, Bush said to Condi Rice, "Fuck Saddam, we're taking him out!" (Very Christian of him, eh?)

At the RNC in 1998 George W. Bush was asked by a reporter what he and his father talked about when not talking politics? His reply, "Pussy."

Al Hunt, a reporter who wrote an article about George W. Bush being "well lubricated" (drunk) in 1987 AFTER Bush had declared he had stopped drinking. Bush saw Hunt in a restaurant and said, "You no-good fucking son of a bitch. I will never forget what you fucking wrote!"

Then we have that precious video of George W. Bush flipping the bird at the cameraman prior to a speech. Have you seen it?

Those who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones.

Cindy Sheehan is a grieving mother whose son died in a war based on lies and she deserves answers. George Bush said her son and 1,873 other soldiers died for a "Noble Cause." What noble cause? That's what she wants answered. We now know, from the Downing Street Minutes Memo that Bush LIED about the WMD. He knew there were none and still lied to invade that country. Why? Iraq didn't attack us. There were no terrorists in Iraq. Saddam and Osama hated each other so Islamic Fundamentalists weren't allowed in the country. PLUS, Saddam was Secular. Again, what "noble cause" is Bush talking about?

For the RW attack machine to go after that lady is despicable and unforgivable. Why aren't the Bush supporters angry about Bush LYING to them about a war that has killed 1,874 soldiers, injured 6,770 soldiers and killed 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women and children instead of being angry with a Mom who lost her son because of those lies?

Why aren't they angry that mothers are holding bake sales to buy armor for their children who are in Iraq?

Why aren't they angry that Bush is cutting Veteran's Benefits?

Why aren't they angry that Bush has ignored the Geneva Convention and allowed torture IN OUR NAME?

Why aren't they angry that Bush has allowed the rape of CHILDREN and WOMEN at Abu Ghraib in Iraq?

Why aren't they angry that the world now hates us because of our preemptive war policies?

Why aren't they angry about the stop-loss program going on? The military refuses to let those who have finished serving their time, leave and go home. They are making them serve past their release dates.

Why aren't they angry that Halliburton has been given a no-bid contract in Iraq and is bilking the taxpayers for BILLIONS of dollars?

Why aren't they angry that our tax dollars have been spent to build 14 PERMANENT Military bases in Iraq? Why?

It makes no sense. No sense whatsoever. Unless you have sacrificed a child in this war, I would suggest you give Cindy Sheehan a little compassion instead of your vitriolic, snide remarks.

edited millions to Billions and a missing quotation mark :)

2. Obviously, it's well written.
But, it will not be posted for two reasons: length and obscenities, unless of course they'll edit that for you.

4. Well, the LTTE in today's paper
edited Cindy Sheehan's swear words. I'm hoping they will afford me the same courtesy?

6. All right.
But, the way I look at it is this: we have to, in every way, appear to have every duck in a row with these bastards. But, go for it. The fact is, you're telling the truth.

7. Yeah. I know it's too long for a LTTE, but
they often print longer letters if they pertain to a lively current event. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Thanks. :hi:

9. Thank you.
It makes me VERY nervous writing LTTE. I don't want to sound ignorant and uninformed because it's a VERY small town here and people know us. I just want to know if it's factual and written OK. Any grammatical errors? Missing punctuation? Punctuation in wrong place? I think they edit that though. :)

Thanks again! :hi:

12. There's nothing ignorant or uninformed about it
They do cut these down though for LTTE. It's a shame because I can't imagine taking any of it out. Do you mind if I copy it and forward to people on my email list?

Also, copies of the entire thing could be accidentally left in shopping carts in the parking lots or in popular books at the library.

10. You're much better off editing this down to 1/2 or 1/3 its present
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 05:28 PM by stopbush
length:

1. As is, there's a lot of badgering going on

2. Lose the obscenities or use the * in place of the vowels in the swear words

3. If they choose to print it, they'll most likely edit it...at which point, you risk them changing the message you're trying to send. It's much better to get a precise and concise message across in your own words. You're trying to cover WAY too much ground here.

Trust me. I've written many things for publication and acted as an editor for the past 15 years.

On edit: I'd say that 80% of LTTEs I've written in the past 10 years get printed.

14. No; don't ;
that ruins the point you are trying to make. Why don't you include a note to the editors with your concerns about the letter?

15. That's my plan. I met him last week at the vigil.
He used my t-shirt slogan in the front page article he wrote. ;) I thought I would tell him I understand my letter is too long, but what I am saying is important and needs to be read and, after all, I am responding to 3 anti-Cindy Sheehan Letters to the Editor. I hope it works. For the swear words, I'll use the * for the vowels. They will still get the message.
