He was supposed to be the anointed one, the Repuke that could finally defeat a Clinton.
Did he just chicken out because he knew he was going to lose?

If Hillary defeated Gulliani in New York it would up her case that she could wint he Presidency. He is one of the most popular politicians the GOP has and he would still lose to her in NY. The GOP is better served by running some no name right wing attack hound with no chance of winning. All they have to do is launch a huge smear campaign against her and if she makes the mistake of Kerry/Edwards and is not able to discredit the GOP she will have no chance of winning in 08. Considering she is one of the most popular Dems in the country this would cripple our hand in candidates for 08.

the prostate thing caught him at a very inopportune moment and he didn't run.
It should be remembered by all that Giuliani has a closet full of skeletons, while everyone in NY has heard them all over the years from girlfriends in Gracie Mansion to bitter divorces, his years as the US attorney in NY to some strange prognostications when first elected mayor. Were all these to come out in a senate run against Hillary or a Presidential run, I don't think the TV pundits or cartoonists would want for a better subject.
Before Sept 11, a lot of New Yorkers were looking forward to end of the Giuliani years as mayor also. It was really that day that has bought him a nationwide audience.

In other words, it'll never happen.
