Abu Ghraib: I feel like a broken record, but
wasn't some info supposed to come out this week regarding the video/pix? It was suggested they'd wait until Friday. So it's Friday...

7. "starting"?
They were originally supposed to release the pictures before the election-- last year.

They've been playing this game for a VERY long time. Fortunately they can't hold out forever, although they'd like to try.

3. Part of a pattern.....Abu Ghraib photos....no Iraq constitution, yet
govt did not dissolve, Rove AWOL from the news....short attention span of the media. Still, after the new poll numbers and how CNN has presented them with relative glee, the worm may be turning...

5. what is going on now

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein in Manhattan ordered the government to reveal some redacted portions of the government's court papers filed in the case, including parts of Myers's statement, that were unsealed last week. The judge said that he generally rules in favor of public disclosure but added that Myers is the most important military official in the country and that he needs to pay careful attention to what Myers says.

6. I'm watching for the Friday PM News Dump
Supposedly, the government is releasing the full text of it's filings re: the last minute 7(F) exemption they claimed last month (it's always last minute)... Now, this is supposedly going to be the FULL text of the papers Gen. Meyers and others filed, from which many, many pages were "redacted" in the versions previously made public.

I'm certainly curious as to what is in there that was so "sensitive" that they had to take the highly unusual step of trying to keep their reasons for not wanting the pics released themselves secret.

According to the ACLU, the government said they would release the full texts this week (from last weeks update):

http://www.aclu.org/International/International.cfm?ID=18921&c=36

The government has told the court it will not appeal the decision and will release the documents in their entirety sometime next week.

So the next big date to watch is next Tuesday, where there will be a hearing on the release of the actual images, although I don't know if that means a decision also.

Things are moving, despite the government's best efforts to the contrary.

10. As much as I tried yesterday to get DUers to read these
links, I couldn't. However, I think you will find a lot of useful information about the torture from these links while you wait for the new pictures to come out.
