Anyone who has been to Crawford, is this true?
Hundreds of signs declaring "This is Bush Country!" have popped up in ditches and on fences along the road leading to Bush's central Texas ranch.
http://www.local6.com/news/4899530/detail.html

I left there a week ago and if there are now HUNDREDS of signs, the locals have been very busy. Last week, there were maybe 3 signs.

2. if true, it could be the work of just a few - they could post signs all
over the place and residents probably wouldn't take them down. People having to live in 'bush country' might not want to make too much anti-bush noise.

20. to keep blabbing about this... during the election last fall there was
a stretch of two lane mini-highway that had bush/cheney signs on every available tree, pole, anything upright - even stuff in the public right of way.

I complained to city hall and they had me talk to the cop on duty in that area - he said they (the cops) would go out and strip down all the b/c signs in the right of way every day - and the same, one guy would come right out and staple and tape more up. It was just one idiot doing this amidst a very busy suburb.

5. I saw them on CNN
Someone planted them across the street from the Camp Casey 1 area. Just stuck in the ditch lining the road. Looked like those plastic bag kind you can put over a wire stake. All the same, not signs like we make. Probably leftovers from Bush's campaign crapobilia.

12. Yes, disgusting
Placed by some PR firm would be my guess. The CNN anchor Ed Lavera was so negative, I didn't want to mention the reprot. He made a point of saying Cindy was being packaged and sold to audiences...highly organized...flashed the Ben and Jerry guy's pic and insinuated it was all some sort of PR stunt. Said never more than 200 at Camp Casey at a time. Wouldn't even show the empty tent at the Yellow Rose. Just said there were counter-protesters (I saw no one behind him). Just disgusting coverage.

The perfect row of Bush country signs was not erected by locals. I would bet on it.

As you approach Camp Casey from Crawford, on the right hand side of the road you see hundreds of pre-manufactured, plastic pro-Bush signs.

On the left you see hundreds of hand-made crosses with the name of a fallen soldier lovingly written upon it.

It's the most perfect analogy for the situation we are in. I'll try to get a picture for you.

29. But it's not so funny to the people who may be targetted by this mentality
I am in no way diminishing the work of police officers. But the type of mentality that *appears* to be displayed on this sign is scary to a lot of people...and for good reason.

I am just so afraid for what we are becoming. This is not America. God help us all.

by extension should have 10 times the cred as this one. Cops certainly have a dangerous job, but there are others that are far riskier.

The 10 most dangerous jobs

Occupation Fatalities per 100,000

Timber cutters 117.8
Fishers 71.1
Pilots and navigators 69.8
Structural metal workers 58.2
Drivers-sales workers 37.9
Roofers 37
Electrical power installers 32.5
Farm occupations 28
Construction laborers 27.7
Truck drivers 25

30. I have spent a lot of time
thinking about you too! All through the trip. It was a much different experience. DancingBear and his wife got there yesterday and we ended up on a long trip to shop for large amounts of food for the camp and needed equipment for the new walk in freezer for the camp. It was hysterical trying to find our way around all those one way frontage roads in a town we were totally unfamiliar with(they are all over that town!). We had two cars and thank goodness for cell phones. It took us 4 1/2 hours, what a trip. I also met uppityperson as well as the wonderful, wonderfully talented brainshrub.

34. That's the thing
If they are willing to complain they should be willing to make a showing. Just how deep does their support and conviction run? I think it's pretty shallow.

Every single person I've spoken to who had the nerve to complain about Cindy to me was told to get the butts out there and counter protest. That seemed to shut them up pretty dang fast, too.

Bush Country: A Legacy in the Making

Back in Crawford: President, protesters alike impact small-town life

<snip>
On the new bank hangs a banner that reads, "This is Bush Country," and as you walk into The Coffee Station you'll find three cardboard cutouts of President Bush, former President George H.W. Bush and former first lady Barbara Bush, all huddled together to greet patrons.

42. From one of the local's own webpage...
Camp Casey growing because of support from across the country

The Sheehan camp has been collecting money from across the world and has gotten quite sophisticated with their new tents, bathroom facilities, air conditioned trailers, shuttle service, PR firm, lawyers and catered meals.

The Crawford Peace House alone has collected well over $150,000 and there is no telling how much Sheehan's website among other groups have collected. Mary Duty, owner of a pizza restaurant in Waco told me Sunday that they are getting phone calls every day from people across the country each ordering $50-100 worth of food to be delivered to the protesters. Mary's son has also printed over 1000 T-shirts that the anti-ear protesters are selling to raise funds for the camp.

SUPPORT FOR CAMP REALITY

A kind rancher next to the Sheehan camp has offered us use of his land for parking and for a close place for us to put together and distribute the 500 SUPPORT OUR TROOPS and IM4W signs which were donated by Grassfire and being delivered this week.

Not one person in Central Texas that I asked for help with our prayer vigil and rally last Friday declined. Some even offered more of themselves than I had asked for. Volunteers are anxious to do more to show support.

This website has been receiving e-mails from across the country in support of our President and his message that we should stay the course.

It looks like the Sheehan camp is here to stay, so we need to get organized too.
