The apple doesn't fall far from the tree... |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 09:07 PM by KzooDem
Babs visited Albion College here in Michigan yesterday and was awarded an honorary PhD in humane letters. We all know this woman doesn't have a humane bone in her body and I couldn't resist reminding people of this fact. Any suggestions for making my LTTE more powerful and pithy are most welcome.
Here it is:
It’s nauseatingly ironic that Albion College (Former first lady speaks at Albion) saw fit to award Barbara Bush an honorary doctor of humane letters degree during her August 25 visit to the college.
The Associated Press article dutifully reported on Mrs. Bush’s “words of wisdom” to Albion students, writing the requisite rosy review of anyone within the Bush clan. I wonder how many in the audience remember the blood-chilling arrogance this woman exhibited when asked about reporting on the loss of life in wake of her son George W. Bush’s foray into Iraq. "Why should we hear about body bags and deaths," Barbara Bush said on ABC's "Good Morning America" on March 18, 2003. "Oh, I mean, it's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?" Only in Bush’s America could this woman be celebrated as humane.
Meanwhile, since her son began his five-week vacation, 75 American troops lost their lives in the immoral, bloody quagmire he created. While she was imparting insights on her audience, she should have used an old adage when describing her presidential offspring: “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

2. Personally I'd drop the nauseatingly ironic part |
|
and approach with a little more subtlety.
Like this.
I caught the news of Barbara Bush being awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Albion College and sat stunned for a moment, literally astounded by the pure irony of it.
And then the rest...
Very good, btw.

3. Nauseatingly is a the correct word, but perhaps a bit too correct |
|
for this purpose. I love the letter. You might slip in how it seems everyone who has proven to be a total shit gets rewarded by this administration - in that old hag!

I can't believe they actually awarded that witch an honorary doctor of humaneletters degree!:rofl:
If that isn't nauseatingly ironic, I don't know what is. You're right. ONLY in Bush's America. :( I hope they print your letter! Good luck.

Claim: Former First Lady Barbara Bush said of the war in Iraq: "Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? It's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"
Status: True.
Origins: While niggling memories of the title of the film that took Best Picture honors in the 2002 Academy Awards might leave some to Barbara Bush question the veracity of the purported Barbara Bush "beautiful mind" quote, the utterance was indeed the real thing. The former First Lady made this remark on national television shortly before the commencement of the invasion of Iraq.
The comment arose during a Good Morning America interview with the couple who were formerly President and First Lady, George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush. The interview was conducted by Diane Sawyer in Houston scant hours before the couple's son, President George W. Bush, delivered a televised ultimatum to Saddam Hussein to step down from power and leave Iraq or face U.S.-led military action. The chat with the senior Bushes aired the following morning, 18 March 2003.
