Poll question: POLL: What was the real reason for the Iraq War? |
|
Obviously, it could have been a combination of things, but if you had to pick one that drove the Bushies the most and got members of both parties on board, what would it be?
NOTE: WMD, terrorism, and spreading democracy are flat out lies, so I'm leaving those out.

2. He wanted to do what his daddy didn't |
|
There's no way to prove it, and clearly it isn't the only reason, but I've always suspected it came out of his lifetime as a failure who had to be bailed out by daddy's friends. He wanted to show that he could take out Saddam when his daddy didn't.

4. A, C, D, E, and G for the multiple part answer. The single answer that |
|
covers all of those and ties them up in a neat little bow? bush* is an idiot.

7. It's complicated because it's all of those things. That's what |

made the invasion such a temptation.

10. Still way too simplistic. |
|
The people involved brought their own motivations to the table, with the over riding impetus being to be in the biggest game ever invented, with the highest stakes possible. We all gamble in, our journies, but to participate at that level is far beyond what almost anyone would want to be involved. It takes a very special person, preferrably a psychopath with a totally synthetic context vis-a-vis the rest of humanity.

W was very aware of how looking powerless hurt Jimmy Carter. He had to do something in response to 9/11. Iraq in more about feeling in control, taking action in the face of adversity. The focus turned to Iraq frankly because it was easier than finding the real culprits responsible for 9/11.We are an impatient, impulsive people who like action more than dispassionate consideration. 9/11 gave W the political cover he needed to pick up an old agenda.

14. want to use their power |
|
I think part of it was wanting to DO SOMETHING BIG, while they had the hands on the lever, and also vendetta for Bush's father. Everyone says Cheney is in charge, I don't know how much control he has over Bush. They created a forward momentum and kept pushing with more and more lies. They want to take as much of the pie as they can while they have the chance (meaning rich corporatists).
