This might be a stupid idea; maybe I haven't had enough coffee...Skinner?
but, I was reading some of Ann Coulter's comments on New York--

I really don't think that she is all that bright; and I think she is just addicted to fame to the point of saying anything that might shock the audience.

Wonder if anyone on DU would be interested...or if Skinner would be agreeable to moderating...an online debate with someone such as Coulter, or O'Reilly. Definetly not a free for all...because there would be too many people such as myself who would get emotionally overwhelmed and start typing "jackass! asshole!" or something of that nature...but, a true moderated debate with each side getting to answer a question, and then a rebuttal.

I know Michael would be good at this...I know Guy James would....NSMA...

Does anyone else think that would be a good idea?

2. Well, that's kind of the point....DU chooses the poster to represent "our
side.." and nobody else can post on the thread...

I do not know if that can be done or not-

Stephanie

3. My personal policy is to avoid talking to anyone remotely like
Coulter or O'Reilly at all.

6. Hand Grenade Throwers ...
The headline seekers you mentioned are interested only in throwing hand grenades. They do so to get a reaction. It is a waste of time communicating with them. They have nothing to say other than to make noise.

Besides O'Rielly is a drunken sot and Ann Coulter is a man wearing a dress.

Why bother?

7. To expose them for the jackasses they are
To show at least some of the public how little they actually know...and that their "talking points" don't hold up to scrutiny.

Stephanie

PS...like I said, it's early...only two cups of coffee here. Not enough to have posted. ;)

8. On My Second Cup Too ...
The liberal message is the right one.

If the boob tube is the standard for fame and notoriety, then leave me with DU and the internet.

Bush Lied. People Died. Media Cheered.

10. I would become far to emotional to debate them myself...
but I would be highly interested in watching. There are a lot of people on DU who would be very good at this.

Yep..I suck. No doubt about it.

12. It would be fun....
...we could all be invited to submit questions we'd like answered and the moderators could choose the best.

But Coulter or O'Reilly, and others like them, would never do it 'cause they know we're brighter than them. What they have to say only works on an audience of fools, and they know it.

13. Nah...but contact Skinner first if you really wanna find out
Who knows, maybe he'll like the idea, although I doubt it.

I think that inviting those people for open debate would set a new precedent, and then everything changes.

Just wondering what your purpose would be in inviting those two people for debate. Is it to expose them for their arrogance and/or stupidity? If so, why bother...

15. No argument you make...
Will succeed in making her drop the persona that she has crafted for herself. She is emotionally and financially invested in that persona and it would only end up badly.

16. Why? It would just be a name calling festival!
That'd be no debate at all. Even among the best of us, because that's what THEY would descend it to.

17. I disagree with this-
the whole point was to choose ONE DUer to debate ONE Conservative.

With moderated questions, two answers, two rebuttals.

Did I just spell "rebutals" wrong?

18. Ed Schultz invited Rush Limbaugh to
a pay-per-view debate with the proceeds going to the troops. Rushbo hasn't responded. He won't even do it for the troops??

These people can't debate, they don't think, they are propagandists who are programmed on what to say to get the attention of the ignorant. Most people don't even know who they are ~

I would pay to watch Big Ed eviscerate Rush Limbaugh who is awful on TV when he has to answer to a national audience instead of the below 70 IQ crowd he and Coulter cater to each day.

They also are beyond cowardly, only spewing their hatred from a safe distance. They do it for money, and may not even believe what they say. But the dumb idiots they cater to believe every lie they tell them and there's money in that if you have no conscience.

Rush will NOT tak up Ed's challenge, because he knows he Ed would annihilate him in front of the whole country!! Still, I think we should force him to answer Ed ~ one way or the other.
