Discuss.
I know which one I prefer.

2. 100% literacy generally leads to a steep decline in birthrates. |
|
Iran, for example, is down close to replacement, which means a lot of those fundy mooslims are giving up on that male offspring. (*)
Japan seems to be entering population decline as we speak. The USA would be there but for immigration.
So I propose that we just teach everybody to read.

8. I think it has more to do with women, see post #5. |
|
It is no accident that fundies like to keep women ignorant and confused; as with slaves, it makes them easier to control. But I would hazard that educated males as a group are more rational in their decisions about reproduction too. Personally, I had 4, but I like kids, many people do not, and they like them even less when they have one or two already.

Listing 2 options on a poll don't mean those are the only options. Especially when the poll is worded to affect the outcome.

5. Education of women ... |
|
Populations with the largest growth rates (most live births per woman) limit or prohibit the general education of women.
Populations with educated women having opportunities have less children/per woman.

Eugenics laws or warmongering. How about a real choice instead? Proven, humane and democratic methods of population control include full human rights for women, widespread education, and balanced wealth distribution in a healthy economy. No jack boots necessary.

11. Well, if you want to wallow in REAL choices... |
|
let's look at the present. China's attempt to regulate is brutal as is the US' methods of letting people bonk and then exploit them later.
With resources on the brink of collapse too.

10. Your premise is we need population control Why??? |
|
I have six children. Which ones should have not been born?
The one that might find the cure for the disease that kills you or the one who pays enough taxes to pay for your social security if you live?

You don't see? Sorry. I just can't keep quiet about how strongly I feel and sense and have been affected by the people who seem to need to have so many kids.
Since six billion day, which was in 1999, we have two complete United States worth of people added to the planet. That's 6.5 billion. But if you don't see it with your own eyes, numbers on a page certainly aren't going to help. Each new person needs lumber (deforestation), a car (global warming), and a plethora of stuff, IN A MODERN SOCIETY.
The life or death of this planet, which supports us, is directly proportional to the number of people who are using it for support. I feel like I'm wasting my time. I've spent nearly forty years agonizing over this kind of thing, and it does absolutely no good.
Why do you think the planet it being destroyed? It's the number of people!
Edit- And I don't believe in mandatory birth control. I believe in choice, and I believe in wise behavior.
